I travel to Windsor for business from time to time and looked for a place that can accommodate me for about a week or so, quiet, clean, close to the office and centre of Windsor and at a reasonable price. Charles House is the place! While it's not a regular hotel with reception, gym, etc, it provides what a traveler like me needs and offers the comfort of any other hotel and even more.
We stayed at the Mercure Windsor in August and it was the perfect ending to a 40 day vacation in England.
Lovely hotel in an ideal location for visiting Windsor Castle (buy your tickets online before you go), shopping, taking in play or wandering to Eton.
Staff were welcoming and helpful and the room was immaculate and well appointed.
"Fantastic Staff and Lovely Hotel in Excellent Spot"
From the initial contact to book a cot and parking space before we went to picking up the car when we left the service was fantastic. At check in they considered the simple thing like we'd been allocated a room with a shower and as we had a baby would we prefer a room with a bath. They noted we had a baby in the room and were offered arrangements for warming milk etc. The staff learnt and used our names, especially the baby's and made us feel very welcome and provided a personal service.
The rooms were very comfortable with an excellent hair dryer....always a pet hate of mine when you have those silly little hair dryers which are noisy and take forever to dry your hair!
Would recommend the use of the valet parking. A bit expensive but easier in Windsor and we had a free hotel air fresher.
Free juice and sweets by reception at all times which was a nice touch.

We found this to be a welcoming hotel, in an old building of great character with a warren of corridors and amazing uneven floors. We thought this was great but I suppose that it would not appeal to anyone who wanted Travelodge uniformity. The staff were friendly and helpful - I was offered breakfast ahead of the scheduled time because I had to leave early for an appointment - and the food was very good. The situation is excellent, a few hundred yards from Eton College and even closer to Windsor Bridge and the Thames. I would certainly stay again.
