The park in the front is beautiful but the hotel has a lot to work on. The check in is incredibly long and impractical if you're tired and you want to go to bed. The towels are extremely worn and the quilt cover was torn with a10 cm hole in it. Definitely far from the quality that I would expect for the stars in this hotel. The blinds in the room were broken and it was something you don't want to deal with if you spent a lot of time trying to check in in a tablet that is asking for too much information. The cherry in the top was that the safe didn't work either. So no, I would not recommend this hotel.

You can get a tram or subway or a nice 25 min into the start of the centre ! Our room had two levels that was cool, we also got dinner one night the menu is small but the burger was so nice ! 😽 the hotel as a whole is stunning !

Absolutely wonderful Hotel and Staff. We will definitely be returning again and again whilst recommending to everyone we know. On arrival our room just needed the love package to be organised and the Check In gentleman at the front desk upgraded us to a Junior Suite and provided complimentary coffee whilst we waiting for a few short minutes. Every single member of staff should be praised for their kindness and attention to detail.

It would have been nice to have the place cleaned out daily, as we stayed for 3 nights and only had the place cleaned maybe once and even that service was not a full cleaning. Just got free towels that’s all. The service at front desk was good but hospitality staff was quite terrible.

Hotel Arena is a beautiful property in a quiet neighborhood near a large park. It was convenient and easy to get to on the tram lines, 1, 4, 7, 14 and 19 making it a quick hop into some of the busier areas, but quiet enough for a good night sleep. Plenty of food and beverage options nearby as well. Property was well-appointed and had luggage lockers available for guests post-checkout, so we could make the most of our time in Amsterdam. Would absolutely stay there again!

I was very disappointed with the size of the room and spiders all over the room. We also found fruits under the fridge and the glass toilet is a terrible idea to have your partner looking at you when you go to the toilet. Also there is no glass or curtains in shower so you wet the entire bathroom. Cleaning guy every morning outside in the corridor whistling every morning waking us up. Corridor a bit noisy.

This hotel is amazing! Quiet, simple and accessible. We loved our stay so much! Bed and pillows were so comfy and great free tea and coffees! The park was a bonus for our last night, just grabbed food at the grocery AH and enjoyed the park.

Well designed hotel in beautiful old building.
Great hotel, beautiful design, located at edge of park. The old building comes with it downsides such as staircases and complicated routing. Service as to be expected from the Dutch, rough around the edges and the pretty young staff felt at times inexperienced.

Lovely big hotel with amazing surroundings
Loved this hotel, really amazing location on the edge of the park, perfect place to sit outside with a coffee or drink. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. Perfectly set up with lockers to leave cases for the day. Rooms really nice and big, comfortable beds. If stairs are a problem then I wouldn't recommend for you as they have them up to the bed and they are quite small/steep - not a complaint just to note. We loved the hotel and would definitely recommend/return. Thanks for a great stay :)

Poor customer service
A few issues, our first night there and the lights kept going out which was extremely fraustrating as we were getting ready to go out for the night. The reception was a very long walk from our room and this happened 3 times as I was in the shower and my husband was half dressed. This then delayed us going out and the club we wanted to go to was cash only and sadly the ATM's close at 11pm in amsterdam which meant because we kept having the go back and fourth to reception and fix the lights we were delayed by 45min to 1 hour. We asked reception if they could make it up to us by allowing us to pay at reception and give us some cash so our night wasn't ruined but they were extremely unhelpful and suggested nothing to help ease the issue. She then said she would check with the restaurant after I insisted and got rather frustrated but then never returned to our room... Very poor customer service in general. The room keys constantly stop working so again, the long walk back to reception every time to get back to your hotel, no apology from reception again. The cleaners arrived at our room at 6pm on the second day when we were already back at the hotel so that was disappointing and I asked if they could come back in an hour after we had left, but they said no. So our room was only cleaned the one night. It's a very pretty hotel that overlooks the park but poorly organized and terrible customer service.

I found the front of house staff seemed massively disinterested. I know I only had a comfy room not a luxury suite but I was over to visit my daughter and had just had a baby and will be back in 10 days to stay again. I felt if I had been shown a bit more attention or interest I might have upgraded for my next stay. It was areal shame as I have had meal’s regularly at the hotel and the staff have always been amazing so I was very excited to stay.

the only problem we had was that the room was 2 levels with a very Dutch (steep) staircase. The rooms were clean towels were nice. But for an older couple the stairs are just not doable. Wish we were told.

Only problem with this hotel was that our room was not on one floor. The bed was up on a loft at the top of a narrow, winding staircase, The bathroom, small fridge, and small sitting room was on the bottom floor. If one needs to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, you must navigate that narrow staircase in the dark. Not fun. I doubt that all the rooms in this very large hotel have the same configuration. Be sure to ask before booking your room. Otherwise, the location of this old, elegant hotel is very nice, actually on the inside edge of a large, beautiful city park. The 20 Euro breakfast was just OK.

Beaten down, does not look like in the photos. Maids only change the towels. Dirt is everywhere. The shower is in the room, water goes everywhere, mixing the existing dirt with dirty water. To add insult to the injury, they want to charge you city occupancy tax for all the days of the reservation, even if you check out earlier, so nights you don't spend still taxed. Front desk is poorly trained and abrasive.

The hotel itself is a spectacular old building, full of character. It has giant marble staircases, and the rooms were very different. Ours had a staircase up to our king size bed inside the room which I really enjoyed as a feature. The toilet/shower was large, and the facilities were good. Oosterpark was this hotels crown for me. Whilst not being the reason for booking, we spent many hours in the park, just admiring easygoing nature of the Dutch way of living. Bikers, runners, bbq's, sports, and exercise classes going off all around all day in an extremely well kept park which the people in return take great care of. I was an 8 minute walk to the metro which took us to the centre of the city each day. However, the trains do finish around midnight if you plan to stay out late in the city, so you may need a taxi or prepare for a walk if those are your plans. We will definitely consider visiting again if travelling to Amsterdam in the future!

Hotel Arena has an excellent location; three subway stations from Amsterdam Central Rail Station, ( Weesperplein, on subways 51,53, 54) next only one tram ( 7 or 14) station and a little walking. Hotel resides in an old renovated monastery building facing a beautiful park -Oosterpark. It is an oasis of peace and tranquility so close to the center of a busy capital. Staff was very friendly and responded very quickly to our needs ( for exemple replacing a defective safe) with exception of a reception clerk who seems very busy and behave like our arrival interrupted his work. Requesting a room quiete and without inside stairs, he gave us a cramped flat room, indeed tranquil, but all rooms were, probably bellow the comfort we had paid for. Eveywere else, staff working with tourists and guides were wonderful. The position of the hotel permitted us quick access to Central Station to visit other towns or cities like The Hague, Leyden, Delft, Utrecht, Haarlem etc. We booked on line well in advance visits to Rijkmuseum and Van Gogh museums. We also booked in advance by Viator a day visit to several old picturesque villages like Zaanse Shones, Voledam, Edam , Marken. I also strongly recommend this trip. The entire vacation to Holland was a great experience , which made us respect more such a hardworking people who recuperated land from the sea and maintained it as agricultural land.
