This is a great hotel in Cork. We were told it's the best and I believe it. Everything was great....except....we were literally scammed out of 20 euros by one of the bartenders.
At dinner one night, where we odly had at least 3 different people tending to us, one of the bartenders asked if he could take our dishes and did we want dessert. My wife ordered some cake thing and ice cream to go up to the room. He then asked if we wanted to pay so we said yes.
He brought over the payment machine and somehow the subject of tipping came up. He claimed that it's better to give cash due to some made up claim. We gave him 20 euro. He walks back to the bar and up to another tender is "snapping" the bill in front of her as in, "check this out".
After that we never saw him again. After waiting at least 15 minutes for the takeaway dessert, some guy comes up with the cake on a plate and the ice cream in a bowl. And no fork or spoon. We were irate. My wife approached a wonderful young man named Ian who helped check in also and told him the story. He was trying to give us back the money but we said no, we just want the dessert and for someone to speak to the bartender. Ian asked if he could buy us another round of drinks, we declined. He then personally brought out the takeaway and we went to our room.
Not 10 minutes later, Ian arrived with complimentary drinks. He was a really considerate guy. But that bartender was a jerk.
