But it’s not all about the beach. Those looking for a little culture should take a tour of the Costa Brava’s historical sites. For great views of the area climb to the top of either Castell de Sant Ferran or Sant Joan Castle; both pretty incredible inside too. Castle lovers are well catered for in this region; the Tossa de Mar Castle and the Castle of Montjuic are two other picturesque castles in the region that have evolved throughout the years.
Explore at its popular museums and learn about the area’s most famous inhabitants. Explore Salvador’s surreal world at the Dali Museum, and check out the Palau Foundation are two of this destination’s top museums. The Casa-Museu Dali and the Castle of Pubol are two other museums that are worth a wander round.
Costa Brava is perfect for a family getaway. The kids will love you for taking them to the region’s two most popular attractions, Water World and Marineland. The fun doesn’t end there; Aqua Brava and Parc Aventura are also great places to spend quality time with the kids.
Costa Brava is also a place of great architecture, with ornate squares, perfect for relaxing with a coffee and a bit of people watching. Two of the most popular squares are Placa del Mercat and also Pau Casals Plaza, or Placa Llibertat and Sant Hilari Plaza if you’re looking for a little peace and quiet.
If you’re staying in the Costa Brava area, grab your lucky putter and hit the area’s fabulous fairways. PGA Catalunya Golf Course and Costa Brava Golf Club should be the first choice for discerning golfers. To make your stay a complete golfing holiday, check out Pitch and Putt Papalus Golf Club and Pitch and Putt Castello Empuribrava.
Last but not least, there’s the party. Many people come to Costa Brava to take advantage of its beach bars and late night clubs. On the south coast you’ll find plenty of hotels and resorts that cater to the younger crowds, many offering all-inclusive deals, pools and even spa facilities – perfect for a little rest and recuperation after a night on the town.
