Overnight Getaway

Posted 05-Oct-2017
Pros: Location
Cons: Shuttle to town
Location: Easy to get to Galway town proper and located on the beach.
Nice place to stay but does cater to tour groups and kid parties.

Galway Bay Hotel

Posted 02-Oct-2017
Over all the experience was OK but disappointing in terms of the condition in the room and its amenities. This was probably due to the age of the hotel and it's far from modern general basic Although we brought our concerns to the attention of the staff within a few hours of our check in unfortunately many of theses issues where not corrected. The telephone did not work and was not fixed during our complete stay The the room was cold since the heating did not work. The television was temperamental and guide did not function unless left on for a few hours. A staff member did try to fix both the heating and telephone system but was unable to. A blanket was provide which did help to some degree. Staff where friendly, morning breakfast was excellent. Disappointed since this hotel was classes as a four star but generally a 2-3 star would have been more of accurate rating.

Nice hotel next to the Promenade and beach

Posted 01-Oct-2017
Pros: Views and location to the bay.
Cons: Rooms are satisfactory, but not updated.
Location: Great location for view of the beach and water. Short ride to the downtown area and central location for local tours.
Views of the Promenade and beach from the porch were wonderful and relaxing. Information regarding the hotel listed it within walking distance of Galway city. If you have any limitations or do not walk on a regular basis, I would recommend the bus service (stop in front of hotel) or a taxi. Wait staff was pleasant and accommodating. If you are a night person, the bar menu was sufficient and there was local food delivery. Walking the Promenade was a great way to view the Bay and watch the locals jumping off the pier each evening. I would recommend the hotel for families and individuals wanting a relaxing stay.

Great Hotel

Posted 27-Sep-2017
Hotel on the river and close to the centre for all that you might need, lots to see and do there and great views over the bay. Staff very good and always on hand if needed, the only thing was no heating during the day if you where in but was on at nights when you are asleep which for us was not so good at nights. as to warm while in bed. Otherwise all was good overall no complaints form us and would stay again in the future.

Disappointment Rectified

Posted 24-Sep-2017
Pros: N/A
Cons: Staff Communication
Location: N/A
After a very long day of driving, we looked forward to checking in and getting a hot meal and relaxing. Location and check-in was as expected. Upon entering the room, it was obvious we had been assigned a smoking room. This was not what we had requested. I called the front desk and explained the room was unacceptable and wanted to be moved. The clerk said she'd call back. It took probably 20 minutes or so before the GM on duty came to the room and explained that an error had been made by keeping the 3 smoking rooms at the hotel in available inventory. He also explained that there were no more rooms available in the hotel and that he wanted to rectify the situation. Eventually he found us a Junior Suite at the Conammera Coast Hotel about 5 miles up the road. The Galway Bay Hotel paid for our room and our dinner. The Conammera Coast Hotel was a very nice comparable property.

A superb hotel in a great location.

Posted 20-Sep-2017
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: Lots to do in and around Galway. Dun Aengus on the Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher, Ashford Castle, O'Connor's pub with live music every night.
From the moment you walk into the hotel you experience friendliness and professionalism. The staff across the board are quite superb. This is unfair to some of the staff but the Hungarian bar man, whose name I forget, and Karl O'Sullivan in the cafe were excellent and their standard of professionalism was reflected by all the staff. The facilities are very good and the beds are to die for. You could do a lot worse than to stay in the Galway Bay Hotel, but you might struggle to find better!
