Cottage with sea views in Glengarriff, West Cork, Ireland

A country cottage near Glengarriff, near Bantry Bay, South-west Ireland, set in 5 acres of dramatic landscape on the Beara Peninsula. Sleeps 4 with 2 bedrooms. The cottage is situated within the warming Gulf Stream that comes down Ireland’s west coast. Only 90 minutes drive from Cork airport or ferry terminal, Lough Avaul is an ideal holiday location for those who want peace and quiet. It is also accessible from Kerry Airport by driving over the Caha Mountains.
Overlooking Seal Harbour and itself overlooked by the Cahas, The Cottage is conveniently situated 3 miles from the friendly small town of Glengarriff, with its shops, pubs and restaurants. There is a trout lake (Upper Lough Avaul) within 500 metres of the cottage. It is only a short walk down the hill to nearby Seal Harbour, where a rocky headland stretches out to the ocean, and bathing is possible from rocks and a small shingle beach at low tide. Seals can sometimes be seen. The weather is pleasant throughout the region and there are many sandy beaches nearby for summer bathing.

Good location to explore the whole south western area of Ireland
A very well equiped house especially the kitchen will all new white goods and very clean. As we stayed at the end of the season ther were a couple of points we mentioned directly to the owners. We were dealt with very well when we had a small problem with technology and get things fixed.

Love, love, love!!!
We absolutely loved staying here! It was like a home away from home! Beautiful grounds and views. We had everything we needed, after a little shopping. Glengariff is an awesome village with amazing people. If we return to this area, this cottage will be our go to stay!!!

Fantastic location, very comfortable stay
We have had a lovely few weeks at the cottage. Spotlessly clean when we arrived, it had everything we needed, from enough cooking utensils, dishwasher etc. to loads of linen and towels. We were held up due to flight delays and our hosts even left us some eggs etc. when they realised we weren’t bringing a car with us. The weather was stunning for most of our stay and even when we couldn’t go out , the views from all windows are spectacular. We decided not to hire a car, which was the best decision we could have made. Local taxi driver Peggy took us everywhere we needed to go and we learnt so much about the local area from her. She knew the best beauty spots too! This is truly a spectacular part of Europe, scenic and remote with beautiful food and people couldn’t be friendlier! There were times we had to insist on paying! Our only suggestions would be a better fridge and stronger internet.

Lovely place
We were very comfortable in this house. Check in, check out and questions (only once re heating) were all answered promptly and kindly. The house doesn't look much like the listed photo on the outside- it's not white and there is a lot of trees and foliage around it. It is close to a reasonably busy (during the day) main road, which we hardly noticed except when walking- you have to walk on the main road to go anywhere. Seal Harbour was not accessible due to private building activity which was disappointing. The views were lovely and we were disappointed to not be able to sit outside because of the weather. The location was excellent for us (we love quiet isolation)- accessible to Beara Peninsula and an easy drive to Kerry and Mizen. There was a very active, apparently lonely and anxious dog from a nearby property which is unattended who was around the house most days. I'm not a dog person, and found this quite intrusive every time I walked outside. My partner, however, was concerned and spent some time trying to find out if she was a stray- we ask that whoever stays in the house treat her kindly, as we were told that she is usually chained up at a nearby house which is unlived in on the same lane (she does appear to be fed regularly though) and she is a nice, if anxious and active dog. It's a place that we would stay in again with no hesitation.

Perfectly decent, budget, no frills stay
The house was slightly further out of Glengarrif than the map showed, so nowhere in walking distance to shop or eat, but to compensate there was a lovely view from the twin bedroom over Seal Harbour. The accommodation was basic, but plenty of hot water and warm. The area is fantastic, lots of places to visit within an hour, the scenery is gorgeous and the people very friendly.

Nice spot for a house. Out of the way of Glengariff. Nice and quiet at night. Has everything you'd need.
