Helsinki City Hall hosts the offices of the mayor of Helsinki. It is a historic meeting place for tourists and locals. Attend a public event, such as a chamber music recital and walk to many nearby attractions, including a market square, a city park with bronze statues and a beautiful Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral.

This wonderful hall was originally built as a hotel in the early 19th century. German architect Carl Ludvig Engel designed the structure however, Finnish architect Aarno Ruusuvuori completely remodeled the building in the late 20th century. Notice the modern glass façades and insertions inside this striking building.

City Hall is also an excellent place to plan your stay in the Finnish capital. The lobby features computers and a wireless network for public use. Find many city service and tourist brochures here.

Stop at Helsinki City Hall’s Virka Gallery to see art exhibits by local and established artists. Virka Gallery aims to give all visitors a unique perspective on Helsinki. Admire artwork in many free showcases in the gallery’s main exhibition room. Displays may focus on multiculturalism, architecture, history, urban culture or many other aspects of life in Helsinki. All exhibits are free and presented in English, Finnish and Swedish.

Attend a free concert in Helsinki City Hall’s lower lobby or banquet hall year-round. Other events include meetings with artists, press conferences and more. Walk to Helsinki Cathedral from City Hall in less than 5 minutes. The beautiful neoclassical-style church is one of the city’s most famous structures.

Find Helsinki City Hall next to Market Square in the Kruununhaka district, about 13 miles (21 kilometers) from Helsinki Airport. This excellent facility is open daily, with some exceptions for Finnish public and religious holidays. Enjoy a picnic in the nearby Esplanadi Park or dine in many great restaurants and cafés surrounding the hall.

Visit Helsinki City Hall to attend free concerts, see excellent Finnish art and relax in the lobby between visits to other nearby attractions.
