Luxury?
They promised luxury, but it was sadly missing. Partly due to the lack of any on site staff of any description (had to phone to get a code to a box to get the key to the front door). The house is period, but has no concessions to modern living. By this I mean, a sink in the bedroom (with no hot water and the cold tap stuck solid) but not in the bathroom which was shared with several builders who were also staying at the same time. The kitchen (which is also shared) was a long walk away and had the only TV we had access to. There was only one modern square three pin plug to use for all out modern equipment. Many of the bulbs around the house had been removed making the journey to the bathroom or the kitchen somewhat precarious. A note on the fridge stated that there was communal food for all the guests that night, however, as the builders had been in residence for some time, we had no way of knowing what was theirs and what wasn't. The bedroom had rips in the curtains and bed sheets, the mattresses had no mattress protectors (yuk) and one of the three beds in our room was so solid it left one member of the party in pain all night. The standard of the bathroom was below that of a public convenience and the seat was broken. It was akin to staying in a hostel which is great if you don't have a family with a 5 year old. Most of the doors in the property were locked so we had no access to the advertised luxurious living room or the magnificent dining room. Outside was dangerous.

beautiful surroundings
first impression of the house is ''Wow, this looks fantastic'' The surroundings are beautiful , and it gives the impression of staying in a manor house. The entry however is disappointing , when you discover that there is no staff at the premises. It is all self service from than on . . No clear information is in the room about where to go or what to do about breakfast or tea and coffee making facilities . No information on what to do in case of fire or other emergency. There are no bins anywhere to be found except the kitchen ( someone had thrown a dirty nappy out of a window !?). The rooms could do with having a mirror in the room, there are mirrors in the bathrooms ( we didn't want to occupy the bathroom to long because of other guest needing to use them). The room itself was ok, big TV plenty of sofa and chairs , nice view , and four good size beds. The mattresses however are in desperate need of replacing, you could feel every spring and it was a painful experience because we had dropped something behind one of the beds, we had to move it,and what we found was not great .

An okay hotel
I would make sure you ring the number from the email, and ask what room you are staying in, and the code to get into the building. But you have to ring them before 6pm, or you will not know the code or room number you are in. On the website it said each room has a shower, but they are separate and shared within the house. Also there was no hot water in my room and no kettle which is on the website and my room was not cleaned the whole time I was there. Having the shared kitchen is a bonus for staying for a week so you can cook your own food, rather than going out to eat every night. The house decor is dated but worth the money compared to the hotels in the area.

Arrived to find the room filthy
Room filthy. Phone the housekeeping number listed on the front door who told me that room was not due to be let that night. Fortunately there was an alternative room which she kindly offered me. The second room was clean.
