Thank You Jose. We've been very fortunate to be able to restore the Lakewood Lodge. Been at it for 10 years, and have a couple more to complete everything. It's the last remaining railroad inn that used to support the O&W Railroad, which ceased operations in 1957. With the rails and tressel bridges removed, we now sit on what we call Rails-toTrails!

Great post ski hotel
We really appreciated being able to eat dinner at the restaurant after a day of skiing and then go upstairs to sleep. The food was reasonably priced and plentiful. The suite was perfect. There were plenty of beds for everyone to sleep and enough space that we didn't feel like we were all on top of one another. Everyone was able to order breakfast off of a menu so even though it was included it felt like getting to eat another restaurant meal.

Interrupted sleep
The check in process was a joke. We were sent to a room and at 2am someone tried to enter the for about 20 minutes. Come to find out we were sent to the wrong room bc there wad no real check in which means that myself and this other family did not get the rooms we had paid for and were inconvenienced at 2am because of a lack of the most basic practices of running a hotel.

We booked our room for one night, only a day or so in advance, owing to a change in plans - it was available. The property is older, and not "plush", but is VERY CLEAN and well-maintained. In our room, the a/c was a window unit, which we did not need, since it was a cooler night, but the other two windows both worked, and were properly screened, so we enjoyed the "country air." The staff and owner (we met him over breakfast) are very friendly -- not "trained" friendly, but rather honestly friendly. The included breakfast was simple, but plentiful, and EXCELLENT, (the owner is culinarily trained, and it showed.) Coffee (regular and decaf) were both top-notch. There is a small bar -- we did not have time for a drink, but the bartender and patrons seemed friendly. NOTE: There are stairs, and not sure if any rooms are on the ground floor. Last thing - we left behind a pair of bluetooth earphones, and when we called back after two days, they had found them, and we were able to pick them up since we were still in the area. We would definitely return again in the future!

Awesome Service
The manager/owner and staff are awesome. We were upgraded to an apartment at no charge because we asked for a rollaway and it would've been tight, so even before we got there we were impressed. Then we got there and every single person was super nice. Oh, and the food is pretty good. I would recommend this place to anyone who had to stay in the area (we were visiting camps and didn't want to leave so early in the morning so we left night before). Made the weekend so much better than it otherwise would've been! Thank you to everyone there!

Pay attention to checking in.
It felt more like a bed and breakfast. We have pets and apparently there’s a different area of rooms for pets but when we checked in we weren’t told that. They put us in a room at the top of stairs. We were there for a wedding. We left our dogs in the room with a manual air conditioner on. When we came back air conditioner was off and curtains were clamped shut. That’s not how we left the room. We told them someone came in our room and the first thing owner says is we would be charged a pet fee because we weren’t in the right room! I’m sorry, the customer doesn’t know where the rooms are or your policies. And if I’m informing you that someone was in my room all I hear is you don’t care and on top of that you want to charge me for something that when I checked in should have been discussed. Bad customer service.

Thanks for participating in the Review Process. It felt like what it is: Country Inn B&B. Full breakfast is included with each stay. On the weekends, during summer season, this includes our breakfast buffet that's open to hotel guests and the public. Like you were told you when you were here, no one was in your room and the windows were opened before your stay, while housekeeping was turning over the room. The A/C could have been on the "Economy" setting, which shuts its off when the desired temperature is achieved. Pet guests aren't well communicated on this platform. Only some of our rooms are pet friendly and that's not communicated well when we receive reservations from Expedia. We only know information about pets when the customer usually contacts us ahead of time. In your case, you stayed in what is normally not a pet friendly room. We also don't allow pets to be left in the room without owners present. That reinforces that nobody went into your room with 2 unsupervised pet dogs in there. We never would. Unfortunately, problems we are having with guests locking up their pet all day in a room is driving us very close to becoming pet unfriendly. My advise is that you call ahead when your bringing dogs at an inn or hotel, so there are no surprises..... Locking up pets in a room for hours is against our wishes and we don't knowingly allow it.

I have to say how disappointed I am. The pictures do not reflect what the property even looks like. First of all, you have to go through this run down bar, and ask for a staff member. I already started feeling unsafe. We got our keys and head to the room. You have to park on side of road. And walk to room. We had to clear our spider webs in front of our door. Walked into the room, smelled like crap. Sheets looked like they have not been washed in years. And no security lock on the door. I will be disputing the charge with American Express. Hope someone reaches out to me to rectify.

Sorry for your disappointment, Unfortunately, your review is anonymous so we don't know when or where you stayed, nor did you express any disappointments or concerns during your stay, or during our full breakfast that was included with your stay. The pictures do reflect what the property looks like because they are of the property! Guests do not have to go through our remodeled bar and restaurant to check-in The small lobby inside the front entrance is where guests get checked in. This is a historic country inn that, like most inns, does not have a front desk. Therefore we have a sound check-in process which allows any number of staff members to assist guests. Your claim of feeling unsafe is completely unfounded; sounds like more of where you are from than where you stayed. Nobody has to park on the side of any road. We have a large, illuminated parking lot directly in front of the Lodge, and we added an 11,000 s.f. illuminated rear parking lot last summer, to accommodate ATV and snowmobile trailers, and overflow parking for our busy restaurant and inn. If you stayed in either of rooms A, B or C, they are located on the west side of the Lodge and have private entrances with deadbolt locks. There are two parking spaces close to those rooms, which 99.9% of guests value for close to room parking, unloading, etc. All rooms have either deadbolts, or security latches on the inside. This claim of "no security lock on door" is completely untrue and invalid. Regarding a stray spider on the outside of the Lodge.....you were visiting the country and spiders outside are very common. We sweep and brush them away when we see them. The room did not smell and we have a dedicated housekeeping staff that cleans and sanitizes after each stay. All sheets are white, cleaned and bleached in our onsite laundry. This claim is also unfounded and untrue. You stayed in a safe Lodge that caters to its customers. You voiced no concerns to the innkeeper or any staff member during your stay. Using this fake review to justify not paying for it is, in my opinion, ridiculous and does nothing but causes undue injury to a small business. It will definitely be contested and will at least shed some light on who and where you stayed. This review adds no value to the review process we value when it helps our continuous improvement efforts. If you have a change of heart and would like to try to have a constructive discussion about any real concerns, you're welcome to call and ask for Jim.

Since you responded anonymously, we have no idea what room or nights you stayed. Assuming you enjoyed our included full breakfast, it would have been helpful to know what you feel is run down??? Thank you for your comments. You must've eaten dinner after the kitchen closed.....off our bar menu. We offer a very diverse dinner menu with Prime Rib, steaks, chops, seafood, stir fries and various chicken and veal sauté dishes, salads and flatbreads. The bar menu is our after hours menu and has great pizza, wings and other appetizers. Glad you enjoyed our full country breakfast. We are now 7 years into restoring this historic country inn B&B and if you are an ATV rider, hiker or biker, you might enjoy coming back during the warmer seasons. Free ATV and Snowmobile trailer parking onsite.

Thanks for your comments. The room isn't usually cold and we would have investigated further had you mentioned during your stay, or at breakfast. The Lodge is a 74 year old historic country inn with a single zone steam heat system. We usually are successful at keeping all rooms comfortable. We include portable heaters in all of our rooms that use steam heat, just in case guests aren't comfortable, or don't know how to shut off the steam radiator when too warm. We've had guests open windows because they were too warm. The water stain at the outside corner ceiling is a water leak we are working on repairing. It's a rubber roof with what I think is a seam leak. Unfortunately, its difficult to repair during wintertime. Had we not been sold out during your stay, we would have moved you to a different room.

Pleasant enough, but...
It's been a week since our weekend visit to Lakewood Lodge and I can say that we're all well. We arrived last Friday night for a two night stay in order to ski at Elk Mountain which is 20 minutes away. Jim was there to greet us, with a mask, and showed us to our nice and comfortable room. Although it was nothing fancy, we're used to basic accommodations in this part of the Poconos. In addition to the double queen room, we were able to take advantage of the free breakfast and had dinner here two nights as well. Both meals were adequately served without any complaints on quality. The only negative for us was the fact that none of the waitresses wore masks to wait on tables. We're coming from an area of Pennsylvania where mask-wearing is accepted as part of the fight against COVID, in order to help ensure going out to restaurants is a safe experience. Not so here. While many of the patrons would wear their masks to their tables, not all thought this was worthwhile. I get that in this part of the world they have different priorities and beliefs. Hopefully future visitors will enjoy the same good fortune we experienced.

Thank you for your kind comments. Some employees have claimed medical exemptions to wearing masks, as permitted in Pennsylvania. Employees that experience any of the listed COVID-19 symptoms are required to report it to us and we have them stay home. I've spend most of the last 7 years restoring this 74 year old country inn B&B and am proud to say this is the last surviving Lodge on the Pennsylvania portion of the old O&W Railroad, now a Rails-to-Trails system with over 200 miles of snowmobile trails, and over 30 miles of ATV trails. During the last several years we added a 1,000 s.f. outdoor dining pavilion, an 11,000 s.f. trailer parking lot, re-carpeted all rooms and hallways, repainted all rooms, installed new men's and women's restrooms in our restaurant. We just finished installing 48" wide showers in two more rooms, which now totals 4 remodeled baths in the main Lodge.

We had a similar arrival experience to other reviews. When we saw the place at first, we wondered if we made a mistake. It took longer than normal to get a key to our room, but that wasn't really a big deal and we got our key by the bar. The woman who helped me get the key and showed us the room was very nice. Positives: The food and beer selection at the bar was pretty good. Breakfast was made by the owner, who was a nice guy. It was also good and we ate outside on the deck, which was probably the highlight of the stay. We would come back for food, if passing through the area again. Negatives: We stayed in room C. We both weren't sold that the sheets were changed since the last people stayed. That really grosses me out, especially during the pandemic. The bed was truly the stiffest mattress we've ever slept on. We almost went back outside to grab out camping air pads to put on top of the mattress. We should have. We slept terribly and the very loud AC woke us up every time it clicked on. My girlfriend would roll over and say, "not worth $120" and try to go back to sleep. We turned off the AC at some point. Overall, neither of us would stay there again and we didn't feel it was worth $110 for a night (about 120 with tax), but the food was good.

Thanks for participating in the review process, Vinnie. Your comments about our room are disappointing, but we understand the heightened concerns some of our customers have over COVID-19. Unfortunately, you didn't discuss any of your concerns with me during breakfast, when I could have discussed in person. Our bedding and linens are changed after each stay. "Not being sold" that the sheets were changed is subjective, and a bit insulting considering the effort we put into it. Bed stiffness is a subjective, personal preference. Many customers have said they love the mattresses. I just asked the customer that stayed there last night and they said the beds were very comfortable. All AC units make noise and the one in your room was replaced within the last 2 years. Our room rates are competitive. A room with a full breakfast for $55 per person is definitely reasonable, but admittedly doesn't compare to sleeping on air pads in a tent! Thanks for staying and we're glad you enjoyed your meals.

Thanks for your review and feedback. During the opening day of the antlered deer season we, in the past, served breakfast to deer hunters earlier. This year was the first year that opening day was moved from Monday to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We actually experienced more hunters staying for the first weekend, when hunters with antlerless deer permits could harvest both sexes. If you visit us again next hunting season, its best to talk with the owner prior to your stay about early morning breakfast. With other hunters we've made arrangements for them to make and self serve coffee before 7:00, then eat breakfast later, or arrange an earlier breakfast. If we have a large enough group that wants breakfast before daybreak, we can do that, as we have in the past.

Overall, a fun and quirky place if you're looking for an experience off the beaten track. The rooms have been recently updated. They are comfy, cozy, clean, and the room C has an incredible view. There's not reception desk, we got our key at the bar. The staff was very nice, and we had a couple awesome conversations with the owner and others. The owner made us a stellar breakfast in the morning. The bar is a fun hangout in the evening if you're up for chatting with the locals. The pool table is a nice amenity, but really needs a cleaning. Really. When you first walk in to this place, you'll wonder if you made the right choice. But as you leave, you'll be glad you took a chance.

Everyone was very nice, it was very clean, but I didn't realize the bathroom was shared with everyone on the hallway. I expected a private bathroom. I was uncomfortable with this set-up. Even though the price was lower than other places, I probably would have chosen to pay a little more and have a bathroom, had I known. Also, this photo is taken from behind the building. When you drive up this is definitely not what you see. However, overall, it served the purpose, a low price for a clean, friendly place to spend the night.

Thanks for the feedback Karen. While the bathroom isn't attached directly to the room, it's next door and dedicated to this room. Last Winter we added bathrooms to the remaining rooms that didn't have them, leaving the room you stayed in with the one it has. So, the bathroom isn't shared. Sorry I didn't get to talk with you about it while you were here. For now, we are going to mark that bathroom door with the room number it belongs to. Thanks again!

i made my reservation at the last minute and was picking up my daughter from a nearby camp. given some of the past reviews,I was expecting the worst. however, i was pleasantly surprised at the very nice room, decent bedding, and nice view out to the mountains. the woman who checked me in was very friendly and helpful. only very disappointing thing was that the wifi did not work and i had expected to do significant work before meeting my daughter at camp.

Thanks for your comments and feedback. We have been having problems with the wireless access point you were trying to use. We are in the process of upgrading to one more suited to the data traffic we see during our busy Summer season. Not sure what room you stayed in, but we added bathrooms to rooms 7 and 8 this last winter. We are strong believers in continuous improvement and value constructive feedback like yours. Sorry for the inconvenience.
