Pocket Guide: Mallorca Island

The largest of the Balearic Islands, the stunning island of Mallorca offers a plethora of beautiful views, memorable activities and great places to stay when visiting there. Lying off the coast of Spain, visitors can also expect similar great weather and inviting crystal-clear waters.

Hotels in Mallorca

Mallorca has a wide selection of hotels catering to every taste, be it a hotel high up in the mountains for impressive views over the island, one that is nestled within one of the island’s towns, or there is, of course, the option of a hotel looking out over the ocean.

Things to Do in Mallorca

Mallorca’s capital, Palma de Mallorca, has a vast amount of sights and activities for visitors to soak up. The city’s historic centre is definitely worth a visit, with its incredible Gothic cathedral, quaint squares, intriguing museums and quiet nooks.

Mallorca has a great selection of beaches for families and individuals to spend a day at. This includes the busier beaches of Playa de Palma, Puerto Pollenca, Magaluf and Puerto Alcudia, as well as quieter beaches and coves nestled along the east coast.

For those seeking some time out on the water, Mallorca has a variety of boat tours along its coast and to more remote beaches. It is also possible to charter a yacht for the day, should there be budget available to do so.

Mallorca has several great coastal cycle paths for anyone keen to explore the island over land and include an activity as part of their trip. At Alcudia and Pollenca it is possible to hire a bike then take on the challenge of an adventurous cycle among the mountains or a more relaxed ride along the coast. There are also a variety of water parks on the mainland, should any visitors be looking for an alternative water-based activity.

Another great way to see Mallorca is to take a trip aboard the Palma-to-Soller vintage train. This beautiful and well-maintained train will take you amidst the island’s wonderful mountains to the picturesque town of Soller, then on to the island’s only sanded beaches on the eastern side of the island.

Further towns to explore in Mallorca include Sineu, where a wonderful market takes place once a week, and Santayi, which is steeped in history and intriguing sights.

For wine buffs, Mallorca has a wonderful expanse of vineyards emerging that have wine tours and tastings available for visitors. Alternatively, try a Mallorca-based wine when dining out on the island.

Eating Out in Mallorca

Speaking of dining out, Mallorca has plenty of great restaurants to try out. This could be anything from Michelin-rated restaurants to more budget-friendly options. The local cuisine is Spanish influenced and there is much opportunity to try out fresh fish and seafood from nearby waters.

Mallorca also has an array of bars and nightlife to enjoy. Magaluf certainly has a reputation for being a place to go out at night, and then in Palma de Mallorca and some of the smaller villages, there are quieter bars to sit back and relax in.
