Overall nice. Elevator is old style and floor arrangement is such that it does not stop at each level. Outdoor seating area is very nice at night for drinks or dinner when weather is good.

Basic rooms hotel.
Didn't realise until we arrived that this was a 'basic rooms' hotel - not sure that that was made clear on the Hotel.com website. The room was basic - but clean. Main problem was an unusual smell from the en-suite cubicle.

Nice hotel in quiet area, a bit far from city life
Got an upgrade from Basicrooms to Alpina, yeah! So got our own private bathroom. Plus a nice corner room with great view on Jungfrau. So for the price of Basicrooms, we got a good deal at Alpina given the hotel prices in Interlaken.

Good location with friendly owner
The lady owner is extremely helpful in providing all useful information to get around. The breakfast is excellent. The hotel is located within easy access to the surrounding mountains.

Average hotel for family trip
This hotel is old hotel and inside is not as clean as relatively new hotels. However, it is at a quiet location. We were satisfied with the speed of wifi. Continental breakfast was good with tasty coffee.

OK in Interlaken
It is an old hotel that has been upgraded to include an ensuite in the room. It is a small box shoved in a corner and is quite cramped, although the shower was hot and strong. The staff were reasonably helpful and the breakfast was extremely basic for a hotel with a restaurant. The restaurant is closed on Sundays and therefore alternate arrangements need to be made. The hotel is out of the centre of Interlaken, although easily accessible via bus or a 30 minute brisk walk.

Hotel Alpina
This was a very nice hotel, the staff was fantastic and very helpful. Rooms were nice size and the breakfast buffet was cold cuts and rolls. The food in the hotel for dinner was also very good, and there were several places to eat within walking distance. The train and downtown are a ways away but still easy to drive too. I would highly recommend this hotel for a short or long stay. Parking was free and close to hotel. Wifi in rooms was very fast for Europe.

Perfect, quiet , quaint place for our stay!
What a quaint get away in Interlaken!!!! The hotel is located a 15 minute walk from downtown, very easy to find. A bit inconvenient being away but there was also a bus stop very close to the hotel, with bus fair included in the hotel charge. The staff at Alpina was outstanding and went out of its way several times to help us. We left early hiking 2 times and both times they left lunches to go for us on the table and did not charge us. They assisted us in understanding the complicated train system up to the mountains. We were having problems with our Switzerland bought trak phone, unable to make an important business call back to the US. They let us try their land line and tried desperatly to help. That also did not work, but they had a public phone right there and took time to show us how. The included breakfast was a bit lite, but very Euopean....... and the bathroom was quite small but traveling in engalnd, we were prepared for that!! the room was very clean. The view was spectactular with the sunrise. We had a great experience at the Alpina!!!! thank you for everything!!

We arrived late for check-in due to pouring rain and slow travel conditions in the mountains. The front door was locked and when the reception answered the door, she said that they didn't do check-ins after 11:00 p.m. but she did hand us a key and send us to our room. The room smelled very musty and the towels looked like they had been around since the 1970's, but we did get a good nights rest. The building did seem to have a lot of historic value, Not what I expected for the money, but it was in Interlaken and surrounding by beauty.

Pathetic hotel
While the hotel was located at a 2-3 min walk from the bus station, it was not appropriate at all for a leisure stay. The rooms are very very small and very compact making it extremely uncomfortable to even move around in the room. They shut the hotel main door at 11.30 pm and no guests can enter after that (reminding me more of high school hostels). I would not recommend this to anyone traveling to a beautiful place like interlaken - it just ends up spoiling your stay

Terrible room, felt like 1940 with a bed frame that my 14 year old built as a scout project. Shower was to small to fit in and shower and toilet might have been together 3 square feet. My wife was afraid to undress. No AC and mosquitos were swarming. Worst room I ever booked. Breakfast was bad too!

A good place to stay
It was a nice and very friendly place to stay in . The food and drink served in the bar coupled with the service was very good. The hotel is conveniently located as it is only a few minutes walk from the train station and shops. I recommend Hotel Alpina to anyone wishing to stay in Interlaken on a tight budget but in a very warm and friendly place.

Great location for convenient sightseeing trips
Hotel Alpina in Matten provided well for our needs. It's a simple, unassuming place but well kept by friendly staff. We were able to visit several nearby alpine villages and see some spectacular sights. The hotel provided breakfast each day, and their dinner meal was excellent and served in a homey atmosphere. All-around good place to stay for a few days while visiting Switzerland.

Great little hotel
Hotel Alpina may not be the most amazing hotel in the Interlaken region, but it definitely has its place here! The female owner of the hotel is very nice and caring, we did not ask for much but you can tell just by speaking with her. The hotel is not too far from the bus station, but if you miss the last bus to come back at night, be prepared to walk for 30 minutes (It's as safe as it can get, so don't worry). Rooms are definitely small but there isnt really much option in this price range, you get what you paid for and I am happy with what this hotel has to offer.

The pictures of the hotel looked nice enough, but we should have listened to all the other reviews warning us not to stay here. Our room smelled very bad and very strongly of mold. The carpet and rugs were all stained and worn down. The bathroom's floor was the kind of flooring you would find at a public shower. We wore our shoes in the bathroom because we were afraid of getting athlete's foot. The towels provided were also beach towels. We were very thankful that we were only staying one night here, and we definitely recommend NOT to stay here.

The three of us recommend this highly.from the moment we walked in until we left Dora was there for us.the friendly atmosphere the cleanliness the food the surroundings neighborhood beautiful. for those who are on a budget this is a great hotel.we are going back next year to this one.the amenities were there location 10 min from center interlaken beautiful walk.

Very old building . There is very strong smell as soon as you enter the room which subsided on opening the windows but did not go away. Bathroom has similar smell which is persistent. Everything in the hotel is old including the door lock. Bed is not very comfortable. On the plus side staff is very helpful , there is a reasonable breakfast in the morning, and there is good bus service from the train station to the hotel.

Not a comfortable place to stay at. Very small rooms. Heat does not work properly in the rooms as it is controlled by the "outside temperature". No phone in the room. Lobby closes at 11:30pm so you cant call the front desk for any help or assistance. I would never stay at this place again.

Very Comfortable Stay
Even though the hotel is not in the center of the city, we enjoyed the quietness of the location and proximity to the highway (for those of you who are driving). The woman at the front desk spoke fluent french, german and english, so we had no problem communicating our needs. The rooms are simple, but very clean.

Alpina Hotel in Interlaken - right in the Alps!
We had a great time at the hotel. It was very comfortable and accomodated all 3 of us. We had a wonderful view of the Alps from our room and were able to walk to all the shopping areas from our hotel. The staff was helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast was delicious - the waitress went out of her way to make sure everyone was happy. We suggest that if you want to use the bus to travel to Interlaken Ost, wait to take your vacation starting in May. That's when that bus route starts running. We waited 40 minutes in the rain for that bus and it never came. Just walk to the train station and take an umbrella because it rains a lot in April.

My wife and I were able to book this hotel via the iPhone app while traveling in Switzerland. Overall the hotel was a good find and the staff was extremely helpfull. The hotel is old and furnished likewise. It's cheaper than most in the area so, as budget travelers, were fine with it. There is a bus stop nearby (Hotel Sonne is the stop for the 104 and 105 busline), but the hotel is a little ways out of the downtown area. We walked it in 20 minutes, but the bus service is free with a stay at the hotel, which we also used frequently. There are also some hiking trails right beside the hotel that provide great views of the surrounding lakes and region.

Hotel Alpina: Interlaken
Wonderful stay with gracious hosts and spectacular view from our south facing hotel room window. Host kindly greeted us when we arrived after midnight (note: she had to be up early to serve guests breakfast the next morning) and when we had to leave early on our departure day, she packed my wife and I a breakfast to go! Extremely close walking distance to Outdoor Interlaken and other outdoor activity agencies. As well as walking distance to shops, bus lines and west train station. Stayed from September 8-11

GOOD VALUE AND COMFORTABLE
Our room at the Alpina was spacious and comfortable. In addition to good beds, there were two good armchairs and a clean and efficient ensuite shower room. Dated: a broken windowblind would not shift and the TV was ancient. All staff (esp the manageress) were friendly and helpful. At a time when prices in Switzerland are high, dinner at the hotel is very good value.

Hotel Alpina in Interlaken
The hotel was like 3 minutes drive in a cab and very close to good restaurants. The hotel staff and front desk personnel were very friendly and patiently answered all the questions we had about Jungfrau and other lake attractions in Interlaken. We had to leave early in the morning to Jungfrau so they even packed breakfast for us with lots of variety. The rooms and the bathroom were neat and had very good sunrise view in the morning.

It was simply ok. Good location close to restaurants, hostel bars, etc. Old, somewhat rundown building. Awfully decorated, if that matters. Very basic breakfast. Housekeeping literally knocked down the door at 9:59 and told us it was check out time. You could definitely do well to overpay for a room elsewhere

Hotel Alpina, a recommended place to stay!
We just returned from our trip and this hotel is clean and conveniently located near a small village and minutes away from the city via the bus which is free while you stay at the hotel. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable and ours had a small, in-room bathroom/shower. Our room also had a beautiful view of the Alps. The staff was friendly and helped us understand how to travel around the area and provided maps and bus/train times. We would leave early in the morning before breakfast began in the hotel so they would pack our breakfasts to go and we ate on the trains. The staff was a real delight. This was a great place to stay and I would stay there again.

Great friendly family staff with good breakfast
I really liked this hotel as it was run by the family staff. They were very caring and took care of every need. We traveled with 16months infant and they made the stay very comfortable. I loved the breakfast. I will strongly recommend this hotel to people with any special needs. Enjoy CH!

wonderful experience
the hotel is located right near the mountains. we had a beautiful view. the owner and her son were fabulous! extremely friendly and even bought my husband and i a glass of wine and beer. they spoke english very well and were very helpful with the trains and buses. the hotel is a bit old, but has the bed and breakfast feel. breakfast was included and it was a nice cozy place to stay!

Decent value
In a city where the average nightly hotel rate is easily twice the Alpina's, it would be unreasonable to expect a 5-star experience. Rooms are rather old and could use some refurbishing, but they are quite large. The private bathrooms/showers seem to be a retrofit from the days before electricity and running water throughout the building. Not very comfortable and the plastic smell was impossible to excise from the room. Staff, however, is very friendly and breakfast plentiful. The hotel is about a twenty-minute walk from either train station, but once there, the hotel (like most in Interlaken, I assume) provided us with a free bus pass for the duration of our stay, valid in the greater Interlaken area. In all, a decent value for budget travelers who would rather explore the area than be pampered in a hotel.
