Pocket Guide: Orlando

Hotels in Orlando

Boasting a whole host of worldwide favourite such as Disney World and Universal Studios Florida ®, it’s no wonder Orlando, Florida, is often referred to as “The Theme Park Capital of the World.” This central Florida city is a mecca for thrillseekers, rollercoaster enthusiasts and families looking for a good time. It’s easy to book Orlandohotels near all the excitement with Expedia.

Hotels

There is a huge selection of accommodation that’s certain to match all your needs and preferences. Because it’s very much a child-focused destination, most of the numerous hotels in Orlando, Florida, provide family-friendly features such as pools, game rooms, and other entertainment. However, there’s plenty for solo travellers, couples, business travellers and others who prefer a calmer, quieter oasis away from the theme park frenzy.

Transportation

While most hotels provide shuttles to the various theme parks, driving is probably the quickest way of getting around Orlando, especially for those planning to visit sites other than the amusement parks. Book a rental car in Orlando to travel on your own terms.

Other forms of transportation include the Lynx, I-Ride Trolley, and the Lymmo Bus. Orlando’s public bus service, Lynx, provides service to many of the parks. The I-Ride Trolley is a bus that services the stops along International Drive. Orlando also provides the free Lymmo Bus that circuits City Hall to Centroplex downtown. You can also use taxi services for late-night or direct transportation.

Travel Basics

Without a doubt, theme parks are the main event when it comes to Orlando. For holiday-makers wanting to explore these attractions, purchase tickets ahead of time and make sure you plan ahead. Also remember these parks are massive, packed with rides and attractions, which makes it almost impossible to see every nook and cranny during a single stay. Before arriving, make a list of all the must-see attractions to ensure you experience all your favourites.

A comfy pair of shoes is the key to surviving the theme parks. Guests can clock in anywhere between 10 to 14 miles of walking each day at areas such as the Epcot® Theme Park; you, too, will feel the burn! When you only have a few days to hang with Mickey and his gang, don’t cut your day short because of achy feet. Dress comfy so you can keep up with the kids.

Weather

Orlando features a subtropical climate, making it an ideal destination to visit any time of the year. The winter season is the dry season, and it’s common for temperatures to settle in the comfortable 20s °C during the day and drop down to 10s °C in the evenings. The summer months bring muggy temperatures, heat, and rain. During these months, temperatures hover around the upper 20°C range, sometimes even hitting the 30s °C.

Even though summer is technically the wet season, it’s not uncommon for a rain shower to roll through in the afternoon at any time of the year. Though these storms don’t usually last long, pack an umbrella so you can stay dry. Also realise, late summer is prime time for hurricanes to hit with September being especially prone to tropical storms. If a big storm hits during your stay, follow the warnings and proper procedures to stay safe and dry.

Whether you visit Orlando during the height of the summer or during the Christmas holidays in the winter, you’re certain to have a memorable Orlando holiday!
