Stunning view, beautiful rooms. Need a bit of maintenence, as some of the lights were not working in the walk-way, leading to a near fall in the small water pools.

Wonderful luxury in an amazing location. Rooms spacious and well-appointed as was the rest of the resort. Spa was gorgeous. The only negative was that the half-board food was very good but lacked variety. Having stayed at the Anantara in Phuket, we were hoping for exceptional and it feel a little bit short.

Price of alcohol and food very high ( eg by comparison with Kempinski in Muscat. Costs in spa higher than 5* London hotels but the massage was in fairness first class. Position provides a dramatic setting . We booked a canyon view room. On arrival they tried to ‘ upgrade’ us to villa with a small pool. The villa had literally no views being surrounded by buildings and a wall. We where eventually given a canyon view room on the first floor ( their are only ground and first floor rooms). This was an upgrade from our ground floor booking and was excellent.My guess is that they had overbooked the Canyon view rooms. If they had failed to find a room ( which meant check-in took nearly an hour) the trip would have been an absolute disaster. The staff were generally excellent and helped me to recover from a poor start to Valentines by providing a small personalised cake and a rose. We are not great hikers but enjoyed the walks to nearby villages. We drove into Nizwa for the souq. Very interesting. We had 3 nights, 2 nights and a bit of advanced planning of activities would have been plenty

Excellent hotel and service. Well decorated a big deluxe room with a beautiful view on canyon (block B), very comfortable bed, big bathroom with 2 sinks. Excellent buffet breakfast and dinner with a wide choice of vegetarian food. Well-kept resort grounds. It’s a great place to stay.

View from the pool was amazing. I didn't like the fact the hotel was so close to a village. It would have been much more impressive if it was on its own like the Alila.

Beautiful location. The views are stunning. We walked over to the local villages in the canyon, lovely. The pool area for the kids was small and with so many kids, not very quiet. Disappointing that no drinks are included in dinner, it would be a nice touch to include soft drinks, water, and even a glass of complimentary wine. The food was lovely and the service top notch.

The room was great: spacious, nice view, great details, impressive amenities. The spa (hot tub, steam room, sauna) was a really nice addition. The main negative is that due to several reasons the property feels quite overpriced for USD ~600 per night. The biggest disappointment is the view - quite far from what you get around Jebel Shams, there are several villages and some ugly construction sites ruining it here. The resort is also not at all secluded, it's just at the side of a village. Food (both breakfast and dinner) in the buffet restaurant was disappointing for the price, variety was ok, but the taste was nothing special. There were also no vegetarian options for the main course - when we asked about it multiple times, nobody offered us something off the standard menu, once again, we would have expected more than this. Finally, we had a spare bed stored just by the entrance of our room - nothing major, but I imagine there should be a place to store it where guests do not see it all the time. A nice property overall, but quite overpriced for what you get.

Outstanding property with amazing views. The staff at Anantara were very accommodating and pleasant. We highly recommend this hotel. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular, as was the food. We also really enjoyed the activities that they provided, highly recommend the climbing excursion and the village walks.

Beautiful Luxury: Exceptional Service
Wonderful place. The service was the best we’ve experienced in the Gulf/M.E, Omani guides were so welcoming and knowledgable (great to see local people/economy supported). The food is pricey but everything we ate, we loved! I’d advise arriving at dusk - the resort looks its best at this time. Also bring mosquito repellent (or ask at front desk - they’ll give it free :) as it’s not too high or dry for knats! My only slight disappointment was the misleading photography of the place on every brochure/website which makes it look entirely secluded and every balcony right on the precipice of the canyon. I’m fact, there are some ugly local structures in view of most of the resort, and most ‘canyon view’ rooms are, in fact, about 100-150m back from the canyon itself. We had a glorious 1 bed villa, but this had no views. Overall I’d highly recommend.
