Dove Cottage, a beautiful 19th Century cottage in the South Hams area of Devon

Dove Cottage is situated in the beautiful South Hams village of Harberton in South Devon, 2 miles from Totnes. It is ideally situated between Dartmoor National Park and some of the county’s most beautiful beaches. Both moor and coastline are within just a few miles drive. The attractive village has a thriving community, it sits in a picturesque valley criss-crossed with typical Devonshire country lanes, perfect for walks and cycling.

Sensitively renovated, Dove Cottage is the perfect place to relax and truly unwind in the peace and quiet, surrounded by rolling hills and fields. Exposed wooden beams, oak floors and a stone fireplace with a wood burning stove are just some the features of this characterful 19th century cosy cottage. South facing, it has good natural light and the open-plan living area is comfortable, warm and homely. Upstairs, the elegant bedroom has a double bed, dressing area and a window with rural views across the hills. The bathroom has a generous walk in shower, finished with vintage porcelain tiles and a traditional large Victorian shower head, finest quality cotton towels and eco shower products. Dove Cottage is powered from 100% sustainable energy sources. The enclosed south facing terrace at the front of the cottage has a table and chairs to enjoy a sunny breakfast or to dine in the evening sun. Starry nights are set to the distant soundtrack of tooting owls.

Fully equipped kitchen with integrated appliances, Nespresso Coffee Machine and milk frother, washing machine, microwave, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk.

Self service check-in is available via a key safe, although we are available by phone, SMS or email should you have any questions during your stay.

There is ample on street parking in the quiet lane.
Mobile phone reception can be limited in the cottage but is more reliable nearer the front windows.

The neighbourhood:
Just a short stroll from the cottage you’ll find the Church House Inn, a 13th century pub that serves great local ales and good food with an active music scene and pizza night on Sunday evenings. St Andrews Church also deserves a visit with it’s picturesque position and its stunning medieval interior and regular services. In the village square you’ll find a stall selling homemade cakes, biscuits, preserves and artwork.

The Parish Hall has a full schedule of activities ranging from yoga to music events and this special community arranges year round festivals, fetes and shows.

Local attractions include historic Totnes full of quirky independent shops, cafes, bakeries, restaurants, steam railway and river cruises, the River Dart and Dartmouth, cultural and arts centre Dartington Hall and Gardens, Agatha Christie's Greenway House, Berry Pomeroy Castle, Dittisham and Tuckenhay.

Sharpham vineyard has award winning wines and cheeses and an al fresco cafe with delicious home cooked local food. It has regular wine and cheese tastings and a winery shop.

Riverford Organic Kitchen in Dartington is an award winning restaurant, where organic veg is the star of every plate. Expect a flavoursome feast of freshly picked seasonal produce, changing every day to reflect what’s at its best in the fields, with organic meat and fish options.

Nkuku lifestyle store and cafe is located in a courtyard of barns and is within walking distance of the cottage, about a mile away. It showcases collections of stylish homewares, furniture and accessories and is a treasure trove of unique reclaimed pieces and Indian antiques.

Getting around/arriving:
To explore further afield without the car, the village is well served by the number 164 bus to/from Totnes and Kingsbridge and Bob the bus. The bus stop is a moments walk from the door.

There are several taxi firms that operate from Totnes that cover the entire local area.

Trains travel direct from London Paddington, Bristol, Penzance and many other destinations to Totnes mainline station (2 miles from the cottage).

There are UK and international flights to Exeter and Bristol Airports from several UK and European cities.

Car hire is available from Exeter and Bristol Airports and Totnes train station.
