Named after one of Egypt’s rare female pharaohs, Hatshepsut called it the "Splendour of Splendours." Though construction began with earlier rulers like Mentuhotep II around 2050 BC, many sphinxes and statues have disappeared, giving the temple a striking, monolithic look. Inside, the cool stone halls offer relief from the heat and showcase well-preserved wall reliefs and vibrant hieroglyphics.
