Activity itinerary

Lake Ashinoko

  • 1h
Several recreation boats and ferries cross the lake, providing panoramic views for tourists and passengers. Several of the boats are inspired by the design of sailing warships.

Hakone Shrine

  • 1h
The sanctuary was transferred to the shores of Lake Ashi. Its current form dates from 1667. The credit for the establishment is also given to Father Mangan, for pacifying the nine-headed dragon who lived at the bottom of Lake Ashi.

Owaku-dani Valley

  • 2h
  • Admission ticket not included
"Great Boiling Valley" is a volcanic valley with active sulphur springs and thermal springs in Hakone, Kanagawa province, Japan. It was created about 3,000 years ago as a result of the eruption of the Hakone volcano. It is a popular tourist destination for its panoramic views, volcanic activity and kuro-tamago (黒卵, lit. "black egg") - a local variety of boiled eggs that uses thermal springs in its preparation. Because they are boiled in the mineral-rich waters of the valley, which contain high levels of sulphur, the egg shells turn black and exude a slightly sulfuric odour; it is said that eating one adds seven years to your life.

The Hakone Open-Air Museum

  • 3h
  • Admission ticket not included
Hakone Choukoku no Mori Bijutsukan is divided into five indoor exhibitions and is best known for the hall of the Picasso Pavilion, which contains about 300 works by the Spanish artist. The museum also offers interactive outdoor sculptures for children and an onsen pediluvium with natural feeding for guests.
