History, Tradition, and Nature in Northern Portugal
This tour combines two of the great treasures of Northern Portugal: the historical and religious richness of Braga and the unique natural landscapes of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, the only national park in the country. It's an experience designed for those seeking culture, spirituality, authenticity, and direct contact with nature.
Day 1 - Braga – City of the Archbishops, one of Portugal's oldest cities and a major religious and cultural centre. The visit starts in the historic centre, where you'll find the Braga Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in the country, with its cloisters, chapels, and treasure museum.
Next, you'll stroll through the traditional streets, passing by places like the Arco da Porta Nova, gardens, and historic squares, where you can feel the city's vibrant atmosphere.
The highlight of the visit is the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, famous for its monumental baroque staircase, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the top, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view over Braga and the surrounding valleys. You'll have free time for photos, a visit to the sanctuary, coffee, or breakfast/lunch, depending on the programme.
Day 2 - Gerês – Peneda-Gerês National Park, a region of extraordinary natural beauty, marked by deep valleys, crystal-clear rivers, waterfalls, forests, and community villages.
The route is along scenic roads, with stops at natural viewpoints, lakes, and waterfalls, perfect for photos and moments of rest. Depending on the group's pace, you can include short, easy hikes, visits to typical villages, old bridges, or dams.
In Gerês, you'll be completely immersed in nature: fresh air, silence, untouched landscapes, and the chance to observe the fauna and flora that are characteristic of northern Portugal. On hot days, you can have free time to swim in natural lagoons or take a lunch break at a regional restaurant.
This itinerary was designed to provide a complete, balanced, and memorable experience, bringing together some of the country's most iconic destinations, landscapes, and cultural expressions. Each route, visit, and activity has been carefully selected to ensure comfort, a diversity of experiences, and authentic contact with the local identity.
However, the itineraries, paths, and routes presented are totally flexible and can be adjusted or redefined according to the interests, needs, and pace of each client. The stages of the programme, the order of visits, and the distances travelled can be adapted, allowing for the creation of a personalised, tailor-made itinerary without compromising the quality or essence of the experience.
