Day 1: Tunis – El Jem – Matmata – Dunes Insolites Desert Camp | Roman Heritage, Berber Culture & Sahara Flavours
Depart from Tunis towards the spectacular El Jem Amphitheatre, one of the world's best-preserved Roman monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore this impressive arena before continuing south to Matmata, famous for its underground Berber cave dwellings and Star Wars filming locations.
Enjoy a traditional lunch in an authentic troglodyte house, featuring homemade Berber specialities such as couscous, Tabouna bread, local olive oil, and harissa.
In the afternoon, travel into the Tunisian Sahara and arrive at Dunes Insolites Desert Camp, located on the edge of the magnificent Grand Erg Oriental. Check into your Bedouin-style tent and enjoy an unforgettable Sahara sunset with traditional mint tea. Experience a live Mella (sand bread) demonstration before savouring an authentic Saharan dinner prepared over a wood fire, including fresh salad, brik, traditional soup, slow-cooked Gargoulette, fresh desert bread, local Deglet Nour dates, and mint tea.
The evening continues with folkloric music, an equestrian show, and a campfire beneath the stars. Overnight at the desert camp.
Day 2: Grand Erg Oriental – Nomadic Bivouac | Authentic Sahara Experience
After breakfast, enjoy a relaxing morning at the camp or join optional activities such as camel trekking, quad biking, 4x4 desert safari, or sandboarding (extra charge). Lunch is served at the camp before beginning your authentic desert expedition.
Travel deep into the Grand Erg Oriental with experienced local guides and camel drivers by camel caravan, on foot, or by 4x4. Reach a remote nomadic bivouac in the heart of the dunes, watch the sunset over the Sahara, and help prepare a traditional dinner cooked over a wood fire.
Spend an unforgettable evening around the campfire before sleeping in a traditional nomadic tent or directly beneath one of the clearest star-filled skies in the world.
Day 3: Chott El Jerid – Chebika – Kairouan – Tunis | Oases & Tunisian Gastronomy
Wake up to a magical Sahara sunrise and enjoy breakfast before returning to Dunes Insolites Camp for a refreshing shower.
Cross the spectacular Chott El Jerid, North Africa's largest salt lake, famous for its shimmering mirages and endless white landscapes. Continue to the beautiful mountain oasis of Chebika, where waterfalls, palm groves, natural springs, and dramatic canyons create one of Tunisia's most breathtaking landscapes.
Enjoy lunch featuring regional specialities from the Jerid before continuing to Kairouan, Tunisia's spiritual capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Great Mosque, stroll through the historic medina, and discover its famous pastry shops, where you can taste the iconic Makroudh of Kairouan.
Return to Tunis in the evening with unforgettable memories of your culinary, cultural, and Sahara Desert adventure through Southern Tunisia.
