Join us for a full-day tour of the most famous locations on São Miguel Island. Our journey begins heading west to the Vista do Rei viewpoint, where we’ll make our first stop to admire the stunning view of the blue and green lakes of Sete Cidades.
Next, we’ll travel to the central part of the island to enjoy a magnificent view over Lagoa do Fogo, considered by many to be the most beautiful lake on São Miguel.
We will then head north to visit the Caldeira Velha Natural Reserve (entrance fees not included), where you can relax in the warm waters of a waterfall. Our tour continues to the Santa Iria viewpoint, offering breathtaking views of the north coast, green fields, and dramatic black basalt cliffs.
Our next stop is the Gorreana tea plantation, where you’ll have the chance to taste the two varieties of tea produced here: black and green. Afterwards, we’ll visit the Pico de Ferro viewpoint for an amazing view over the Furnas Valley, famous for its volcanic phenomena.
For lunch, we’ll enjoy the island’s most iconic dish: Cozido das Furnas, a traditional stew cooked underground using volcanic heat. After lunch, we’ll visit Furnas Lake to see where the stew is prepared and take a relaxing walk by the lakeside.
On our way back to Ponta Delgada along the south coast, we’ll pass through Vila Franca do Campo, the island’s first capital. Our final stop will be at the Nossa Senhora da Paz Chapel, where you can enjoy a spectacular view over the Islet of Vila Franca, a natural reserve for marine birds.
