Elsen Tasarkhai is a unique semi-desert area in central Mongolia, located about 280 km west of Ulaanbaatar. It features a narrow stretch of sand dunes surrounded by grassy steppe and rocky mountains, often called the “Mini Gobi.” The area is known for camel riding, scenic landscapes, and nearby nomadic families living in traditional gers.

Orkhon Waterfall

Orkhon Valley Orkhon Waterfall (Ulaan Tsutgalan) is one of Mongolia’s most famous natural attractions, located in the Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The waterfall was formed by volcanic eruptions and is about 20 metres high, creating a beautiful and peaceful landscape surrounded by wide grasslands and lava rocks. Here, we will enjoy a one-hour horse ride and have a chance to hike around the Orkhon Valley and the waterfall.

On the border of Uvurkhangai and Arkhangai aimags, 40 kilometres northwest of the centre of Khujirt soum and 50 kilometres from the centre of Bat-Ulziit soum, Undur-Ovoot or Shiveet-Ulaan is located on a small rocky ledge on the top of a high mountain surrounded by dense forests. It is a 5-kilometer climb from the foot of the mountain to the monastery. In 1648, at the age of 14, the first Bogd Zanabazar of Mongolia was interested in this unique natural landscape and in 1651 he built a small house with stone walls for meditation, which he called “dubkhan” or a place of creation. This word has been used to refer to the monastery since then. Here we are hiking 1 way aprox 2 hours.

Kharkhorin

Kharkhorin was the capital of the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. It is located in the Orkhon River basin, 360 km southeast of the current capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar. In 1380, Kharkhorin was destroyed. However, about 200 years later, Avtai Sain Khan founded the Erdene Zuu Monastery on the site of Kharkhorin. Kharkhorin is a fascinating place with many historical monuments of Mongolia.
