Watch the opening parade of eagle hunters in traditional fur and embroidered dress, followed by the eagle calling competition and the spectacular eagle's call dive, where trained golden eagles descend to their masters at full speed Upon arrival in Khovd, board a private 4x4 vehicle and drive to the sacred Three Caves (Gurvan Sekheert), a fascinating rock formation set into dramatic cliffs that has been a spiritual site for nomadic travellers for centuries. Continue 110 kilometres westward through the changing landscape with a picnic lunch served en route. The journey leads to the shores of Khar-Us Lake, one of Central Asia's most important freshwater wetlands and home to migrating birds and rare wildlife. Here you can stretch your legs, walk along the lakeshore, and take in the vast Western Mongolian sky. After exploring the lake, drive another 70 kilometres to Chonon Bolboo Ger Camp, a comfortable riverside tourist ger camp where dinner is served around the fire under the open sky.

The festival continues with Kokpar, a fierce horseback tug-of-war over a goat hide, the Kyz Kuar "girl chase" race, Tiyn Teru coin-picking at full gallop, and camel racing, before the closing awards ceremony honours the year's best eagle hunters.

Drive about an hour into the Sagsai valley to spend the day with a Kazakh eagle hunter's family. Learn how golden eagles are trained in a 4,000-year-old tradition recognised by UNESCO, watch a private hunting demonstration in the mountains, and share home-cooked meals in the family ger.

Head out on a full-day excursion towards the snow-capped Tsambagarav massif. Stop to meet nomadic families along the way and take short hikes with dramatic glacier views before returning to Ölgii for a farewell dinner. Watch Kokpar, the spectacular horseback tug-of-war played with a goat skin between teams of mounted riders. See Kyz Kuar, the traditional Kazakh women's chase game where horsewomen pursue and try to overtake male riders. Witness Tiyin Teru, the breathtaking coin-grabbing contest performed at full gallop, where riders must lean from the saddle to snatch coins from the ground while their horses race past. The day culminates in the closing ceremonies as the top eagle hunters are honoured with medals on a podium beneath the five raised national flags. You will see the masters of this ancient art receive recognition from their community and international guests.
