Overview

Acotango Volcano located at 6055 on the border between Bolivia and Chile in this adventure that could be your first 6K due to its low level of difficulty. Together with our certified mountain guides, we will take you through the Andes mountain range to the summit where you can admire the beauty of the snow-capped mountains of the Andes mountain range. After our visit, we returned to La Paz City where our adventure began.

Activity itinerary

Day 1: La Paz - Acotango Base camp

  • Accommodation: Overnight at the base camp, we set the tents to spend the nigh at the base of the volcano

Chullpares

Before arriving at our destination, we will briefly stop to visit Chullpares. These are buildings belonging to the Aymara and Quechua cultures where their loved ones were mummified and served as prayer centers for these people. These areas have been looted in recent decades but the original structures still stand.

Curahuara de Carangas

We arrived at Curahuara de Carangas, a town known as one of the folkloric capitals of Bolivia. Here your guide will take you to learn a little about the Andean culture and you will be able to visit the town church known as the Sistine Chapel of the Andes. Afterwards, we will have lunch in this community.

Sajama National Park

After lunch, we will drive along the pavement for another hour and enter a dirt road that will take us to the entrance of the Sajama National Park. We will register and continue with our adventure. Continuing along the dirt road, our transport will take us through the national park where we will be able to appreciate spectacular views of the Andean flora and fauna, finally, we will arrive at the base of the volcano.

Arriving at the base of the volcano we will begin a short walk to base camp. Here we will set up our tents and your guide will prepare a comforting dinner and give you the last instructions to prepare for the final ascent to the summit.

Day 2: Acotango Volcano - La Paz

Time to wake up! We prepare all our equipment for the ascent with the guide. We start the ascent to the summit. On the way, we will rest and check equipment to cross the first ridge of our route. It is advisable to hydrate at each break. finally, we will reach the Acotango Volcano summit!

We begin the descent to base camp. Before leaving the volcano we will have a short break to enjoy our feat and take our last souvenir photos. We return to the meeting point with our transport. Return to the city of La Paz.
