What you can expect
We begin our private city tour at the Citadel of Ajaccio, the historical origin of the city. There you will learn how the Genoese founded Ajaccio in 1492 and why Corsica played a key strategic role in the Mediterranean for centuries.
Ajaccio is not just about buildings and squares – the city's soul lies in the stories of its inhabitants, past and present generations. As we stroll through the Old Town and its historic squares, we will encounter figures from Corsican history, including Danielle Casanova, Pasquale Paoli, Charles-André Pozzo di Borgo, and, of course, Napoleon Bonaparte, who was born in Ajaccio. Along the way, we will discover, among other things, Rue Bonaparte, the Maison Bonaparte, and other places closely linked to the city's history.
Our route continues to the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption cathedral, Place Foch, and through the historic alleys of the old town. Along the way, you will gain insights into the culture, traditions, and modern life of the people of Ajaccio, as well as the culinary specialities of Corsica. You will learn how Ajaccio evolved over the centuries from a Genoese fortress to a vibrant Mediterranean city.
`
This private guided tour offers plenty of time for questions, personal conversations, and individual recommendations for restaurants, landmarks, and other things to discover in Ajaccio. This way, you will not only get to know the city through its history, but also through the people who have shaped it and continue to shape it to this day.Option 2: Guided City Tour Followed by a Tasting of Corsican Specialities
For those who want to discover Ajaccio not only through its history, but also through its flavours, there is the option of rounding off the guided tour with a small tasting of authentic Corsican specialities.
After the walking tour, you will enjoy a traditional Corsican speciality platter with selected products from a local producer from the area around Ajaccio. You can expect, among other things, Tomme de brebis (Corsican sheep's cheese), Coppa, Lonzu and Saucisson – typical sausage and cheese specialities that are deeply rooted in the island's culinary tradition.
During this tasting, you can let the impressions of the city tour fade away in a relaxed atmosphere and learn even more about the Corsican way of life, its regional products, and the people behind these traditions.
