On this tour you'll have the opportunity to visit two extraordinary destinations in southern Italy, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Alberobello and Matera. An experience designed to allow you to truly experience the places, with balanced timeframes and without rushed visits.
The tour begins with an assisted check-in phase, handled by a local Apulian team, who are always on hand to welcome you and provide you with all the information you need to enjoy the day in a relaxed and organised way.
Alberobello
The first stop is Alberobello, world-famous for its iconic trulli. You will be welcomed by an experienced local guide, ready to accompany you on a fascinating guided tour during which you will discover the historical and cultural value of the place. Through stories and interesting facts, you will get to know the historic districts of Rione Monti and Aia Piccola, admiring the trulli, their construction techniques, the mysterious symbols painted on the roofs, and the ancient traditions that still characterise the life of the village today.
Strolling through the historic districts of Rione Monti and Aia Piccola, you can admire iconic sights such as the Trullo Sovrano and the Chiesa di Sant'Antonio. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1996, Alberobello is an extraordinary example of vernacular architecture, captivating with its authentic and timeless atmosphere.
The time allocated to the visit is ample and well balanced: you can explore the village at your leisure, go inside the artisan workshops, have lunch, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. There is also a food tasting of typical local products, such as sweet and/or savoury taralli, bitters and/or wines, to discover the authentic flavours of Puglia.
Matera
The tour continues to Matera, one of the oldest cities in the world, famous for its Sassi, ancient dwellings carved into the rock. Here you will be accompanied by an expert and qualified local guide, who will lead you on a discovery of the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano, telling you about the city's thousand-year history and its extraordinary journey of rebirth, culminating in its designation as the European Capital of Culture in 2019.
During the visit, you will be able to enter some Rupestrian churches, such as the Church of Santa Maria de Idris, and you will have the opportunity to visit a house-museum (optional entry, extra €2.50) to understand how people lived in the Sassi until the 1950s.
In Matera, too, the guided visit is always balanced with free time to explore the alleyways on your own, take photographs, have lunch or experience the city at your own pace before the drop-off.
