On this tour, you'll have the opportunity to visit two extraordinary destinations in southern Italy, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Alberobello and Matera. An experience designed to allow you to truly experience the places, with a well-balanced schedule and no rushed visits.
The tour begins with an assisted check-in phase, overseen by a local Apulian team that is always on hand to welcome you and provide you with all the useful information you need to enjoy the day in a relaxed and organised way.
Alberobello
The first stop is Alberobello, world-famous for its iconic trulli. You will be welcomed by an experienced local guide, who will take you on a fascinating guided tour during which you will discover the historical and cultural significance of the place. Through stories and interesting facts, you will get to know the historic districts of Rione Monti and Aia Piccola, admiring the trulli, their construction techniques, the mysterious symbols painted on the roofs and the ancient traditions that still characterise life in the village today.
Strolling through the historic districts of Rione Monti and Aia Piccola, you can admire iconic sites such as the Trullo Sovrano and the Church of Sant'Antonio. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1996, Alberobello is an outstanding example of vernacular architecture, captivating visitors with its authentic and timeless atmosphere.
The time allocated for the visit is ample and well-balanced: you can explore the village at your leisure, visit the artisan workshops, have lunch or simply soak up the atmosphere. A food tasting of typical local products is also included, such as sweet and/or savoury taralli, amari and/or wines, to discover the authentic flavours of Puglia.
Matera
The tour continues to Matera, one of the oldest cities in the world, famous for its Sassi, ancient dwellings carved into the rock. Here, you will be led by an expert and qualified local guide, who will take you to discover the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano, telling you about the city's thousand-year history and its extraordinary journey of rebirth, culminating in its designation as European Capital of Culture in 2019.
During the visit, you can enter some rupestrian churches, such as the Church of Santa Maria de Idris, and you'll have the opportunity to visit a house-museum (optional admission, extra €2.50) to learn how people lived in the Sassi until the 1950s.
In Matera, too, the guided visit is always balanced with free time to explore the alleyways on your own, take photos, have lunch or enjoy the city at your own pace before your drop-off.
