Day 1 — Small Tour with temples off the tourist map
Angkor Wat – The largest temple in the world, in the best morning light. Your Spanish-speaking tour guide positions you at the exact angle for the best photo and explains the symbolism of the five lotus-shaped towers, the Mahabharata bas-reliefs, and the apsaras carved in each corridor.
Angkor Thom: Bayon, Baphuon and Royal Terraces – 216 smiling faces watch you at Bayon. The Baphuon, an 11th-century pyramid restored over decades, and the Terraces of the Elephants and the Leper King, with life-size bas-reliefs.
Thommanon and Chau Say Tevoda – Two twin temples from the 12th century: Thommanon, well preserved, and Chau Say Tevoda, restored by China. Your tour guide explains the differences in archaeological criteria between the two — something that no audio guide tells you.
Ta Keo – Complete structure, zero bas-reliefs. The only temple in Angkor with its five towers intact but without a single sculpture. Your tour guide explains the theories that archaeologists are debating today about why it was left like this.
Ta Nei – Five minutes from Angkor Wat, one of the quietest temples in Angkor. Its galleries, invaded by roots, are reminiscent of Ta Prohm, but without tourists. Almost no sightseeing tour includes it because you need to know the way — your tour guide does.
Lunch (not included) – Your tour guide takes you where the locals eat: authentic Cambodian cuisine for less than $10.
Ta Prohm – Spung trees embrace towers and walls in one of Cambodia's most iconic postcard images. Your tour guide takes you to the spots that aren't marked on the ground for selfies.
Banteay Kdei and Srah Srang – A ruined monastery with absolute silence, and the royal pond where the evening light turns the water into a mirror.
Day 2 — Full Grand Circuit + Banteay Srei
Pre Rup and East Mebon – Pre Rup, a pyramid temple with panoramic views, and East Mebon, built on an artificial island in the middle of a 7 km² baray, where the king would arrive by boat.
Neak Pean and Ta Som – Neak Pean, a healing temple-island with four cardinal ponds. Ta Som, a small temple with the famous tree that embraces its eastern gate — like Ta Prohm, but without a line.
Preah Khan – A temple city that was a university, hospital, and centre of power, with moss-covered vaulted passageways and a two-story structure unique in Angkor. Your tour guide explains why archaeologists are still debating its original function.
Lunch (not included) – Lunch in a rural setting, near Banteay Srei.
Banteay Srei – Pink sandstone and the best-preserved reliefs in all of Angkor. Located 25 km from the centre, most 2-day tours don't go this far. Its sculptures are so delicate that it was believed that only women's hands could have carved them.
Prasat Kravan and Banteay Samre – Prasat Kravan, red brick towers with reliefs of Vishnu carved into the stone. Banteay Samre, surrounded by rice paddies, is reminiscent of Angkor Wat in absolute silence. Hotel drop-off before 6:00 PM.
