Begin your day with a morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha. Drive to Materuni Village, the home of the Chagga tribe, and register at the village office. Set off on a 40-minute walk to the Materuni Waterfalls, learning about the culture of the Chagga and the surrounding fauna and flora along the way.
Admire the breathtaking views of the surrounding rainforest and, with some luck, the summit of Kilimanjaro. When you reach the waterfalls, see that they are more than 80 metres high. Take a refreshing swim in the pool at the bottom of the waterfall before returning to Materuni Village.
Enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch and taste the local banana beer. Next, embark on a coffee tour and learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted, and further processed. Join in the grinding of the coffee, traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances.
Before you say goodbye, savour the coffee you made and appreciate the views of the surrounding rainforest. Continue to the Kikuletwa Hot Springs, also known as Chemka Hot Springs, close to the village of Rundugai.
Take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear, turquoise waters of the hot springs, surrounded by palm and fig trees with winding roots. Although they are called hot springs, the water in Kikuletwa is not truly hot but refreshing, as the water source is fed by Kilimanjaro itself.
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the sun, chatting with the locals at the small bar, or swimming. Leave the hot springs in the late afternoon and return to Arusha.
