What you can expect

  • Get ready to walk through two millennia of history on a guided tour through the heart of Augsburg’s old town. Established as a Roman colony in 15 B.C., Augsburg later became the capital of the Roman province of Raetia. Over the centuries, it evolved into a significant trade hub linking Italy to Central Europe and regions as far as present-day Turkey. Now the capital of Swabia in Bavaria and Germany’s third oldest city, Augsburg is renowned for the Fugger family—often referred to as the German Medici—who established the Fuggerei, the world's oldest social council estate. The city also holds cultural significance as the birthplace of Leopold Mozart and the playwright Bertolt Brecht.
This engaging walk includes many of Augsburg’s key landmarks, such as the Town Hall, known for being the first six-story building ever constructed, and the historic Fuggerei. You'll also visit the home where Brecht was born and the Schaezler Palais, a baroque residence that emerged from World War II unscathed, offering insight into the city's Imperial legacy.
