What you can expect

  • Join our 3-hour professional Aurora Hunting Tour by comfortable Mercedes-Benz minibus and travel through the Arctic night in search of the Northern Lights.

Our goal is simple: maximise your chances of seeing the Aurora.

This is not a fixed-location tour where we drive to one camp and wait. We hunt for clear skies and the best possible conditions. Weather can vary significantly across Northern Lapland: Saariselkä may be cloudy while skies elsewhere can be clear. Our experienced local driver uses weather forecasts and local knowledge to choose the best direction for the evening.

Why hunt the Aurora by car?

A minibus gives us a much larger search area than a snowmobile. We are not restricted to snowmobile trails or one location and can travel farther when necessary to search for clear skies. You can also enjoy the journey in the warmth of our heated Mercedes-Benz minibus regardless of the Arctic temperature.

Saariselkä village can have cloud cover and light pollution from hotels, buildings and roads. By travelling away from village lights, we can reach darker locations where the Northern Lights are easier to observe and photograph.

    Why no fixed campfire?

Many Aurora tours are based around a campfire at one location. Our philosophy is different. We don’t make an open fire because mobility is an essential part of Aurora hunting. Staying at one campfire limits the search area: it could be cloudy there while clear skies may be found elsewhere.

We prefer to spend our time searching for the best possible sky rather than waiting beside a fire under the clouds.

Why don’t we serve hot drinks?

We travel through remote Arctic areas where public toilets and suitable bathroom stops are limited. For this practical reason, we don’t serve hot drinks. Instead, we concentrate the available tour time on hunting the Northern Lights.

    Northern Lights & Weather

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed. Clouds, snowfall or rain can prevent visibility even when Aurora activity is happening above the clouds.

We recommend checking weather forecasts 1–2 days before your tour using Foreca, Finnish Meteorological Institute (Ilmatieteenlaitos) or Yr.no. Check hourly forecasts around 21:00–00:00 for Saariselkä, Ivalo, Inari, Nellim, Vuotso and Sodankylä. If the entire region is forecast to be cloudy or snowy, we recommend rescheduling or cancelling for a clearer evening if your booking conditions allow.

Free pickup and drop-off within approximately 20 km of Saariselkä.

    Approximate pickup before departure:
    Kiilopää: 35–30 min
    Kakslauttanen East Village: 25–20 min
    Kakslauttanen West Village: 20–15 min
    Laanila: 15–5 min
    Saariselkä Village: 10–0 min

Please be ready in hotel/accommodation reception. Pickup may occasionally be delayed by a few minutes.

    Duration: approx. 3 hours
    Transport: Mercedes-Benz minibus
Minimum: Tour operates with at least 3 booked guests.

Dark skies. Clear skies. Mobility. That is our Aurora Hunting philosophy.
