What you can expect

  • Discover Bayonne on a guided walking tour starting from the town hall, lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Located at the confluence of the Nive and Adour rivers, the city captivates visitors with its rich heritage, strong Basque identity and vibrant traditions. Accompanied by a passionate local guide, explore the alleyways of the historic centre and delve into the fascinating history of Bayonne.

During the tour, you will learn about the major milestones that have shaped the city, from its Roman origins to its strategic role as a fortified city. The Cathédrale Sainte-Marie, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its Gothic cloister are among the must-sees on the tour.

Bayonne is also a city of culture and traditions. Your guide will introduce you to the Basque identity through its iconic festivals, customs, gastronomy and traditional know-how, particularly in relation to Bayonne ham and the local markets, which still contribute to the region's reputation today.

Finally, it's impossible to talk about Bayonne without mentioning chocolate. Introduced in the 17th century, it made the city the historic capital of chocolate in France. A food tasting can round off the tour with a gourmet touch.

This guided walking tour is perfect for a first-time visit to Bayonne. Accessible to everyone, it combines history, Basque culture and gastronomy in a friendly atmosphere.
