A) Overview
See Beijing from two local angles in one private experience: ride through the old-city core, then enter a traditional siheyuan courtyard to learn dumpling-making with locals. This tour blends historic streets, landmark areas, area life, and a hands-on food experience in one well-paced day.
The route follows Beijing’s clearest historic north-south line, from Yongdingmen to the Drum and Bell Towers area. Rather than jumping between separate sights, it shows how landmark areas, old areas, and daily local life connect across the city. It is especially rewarding by bike, with the journey itself forming part of the experience.
B) Why choose this
Follow a route that connects Beijing’s landmark areas and old areas
Explore by bike for a closer, street-level feel of daily city life
Pair active sightseeing with dumpling-making in a local courtyard home
Enjoy a private format with smoother pacing and more personal guidance
Cook and eat the dumplings you make yourself at the end of the tour
C) What to expect
Meet at 9:00 AM at Exit C of Yongdingmenwai Station, then unlock a shared bike to begin. Start at Yongdingmen and ride north through the old Tianqiao area towards Qianmen Street, passing historic road remains and viewing Zhengyangmen Arrow Tower from the outside.
There is time in Qianmen Street and Xianyukou Hutong to rest, explore, and buy local snacks at your own expense. Continue through central Beijing, passing landmark areas near Tiananmen, Nanchizi Street, and the Forbidden City corner towers for exterior views only, then head towards Jingshan Park, Di'anmen Street, Wanning Bridge, and the Drum and Bell Towers area.
At the Drum and Bell Towers square, you may see local daily activities such as shuttlecock kicking or square dancing. Then enter a traditional siheyuan courtyard, where the host explains the layout and living details of this classic Beijing home style.
In the afternoon, make dumplings by hand with a local host, cook them, and sit down to eat what you prepared. The experience ends around 5:00 PM in the Drum and Bell Towers area.
D) Important notes
This is a private tour with a fixed 9:00 AM start on the selected date.
The route passes major landmark areas, but paid attraction entry and inside visits are not included. Time in Qianmen Street and Xianyukou is for rest, exploring, and self-purchased snacks.
If roads near Tiananmen are closed due to traffic control, the cycling route may be adjusted. Vegetarian dumplings and vegan snacks can be arranged.
E) Summary
This private experience combines Beijing’s historic old-city route with a traditional courtyard dumpling session for a fuller view of the city beyond standalone sights.
