What you can expect
Riding our bikes at a leisurely pace, we will explore together the turbulent history of this fascinating city. A bike is the perfect way to get from one place to the next quickly, while still having enough time to take it all in at your leisure. The route is diverse, featuring historical highlights, moving stories, and surprising perspectives.
Our adventure begins at Checkpoint Charlie, arguably the most famous border crossing point between East and West Berlin. Here, we will dive straight into the era of the Cold War.
Just a few minutes later, we reach the Topography of Terror. At this impressive site, we’ll take a look at the dark history of National Socialism.
Immediately afterwards, we will head for a place that is almost invisible today but was once the nerve centre of the Nazi regime: the site of the former Fuehrerbunker.
A little later, we will stop at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, one of the most moving sites in Berlin. Here, your guide will provide you with an easy-to-understand overview of the history and significance of this memorial.
From here, we’ll continue on to the stunningly beautiful Tiergarten, the green heart of the city. It is one of the city’s largest parks. Afterwards, we will take a roughly 30-minute break, during which you can refuel with a drink or a snack.
Refreshed, we’ll cycle to the Victory Column, one of Berlin’s most iconic landmarks. The golden Victory Column, nicknamed “Golden Else,” stands proudly overlooking the city.
Our route then takes us past Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the President of Germany, which is located right on the Spree.
Riding directly along the Spree on the Reichstag bank, we will enter the government district, passing the modern Chancellery, with its striking architecture, and continuing to the historic Reichstag building. Here, past and present come together in a very special way – your guide will take you on a journey through the history of German democracy, from the German Empire to the Federal Republic of today.
Next up is the Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of German unity and perhaps the city’s most famous photo spot. Here, we will take our time to soak up the special atmosphere; no visit to Berlin would be complete without this place.
Next, we’ll continue to Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the heart of the Spree. This is where five of Germany’s most important museums come together. Although we won’t go inside, you’ll gain fascinating insights into the architectural history and significance of this unique ensemble.
Finally, we’ll roll over to the elegant Gendarmenmarkt, which, with the German and French Cathedrals and the Konzerthaus, is considered one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.
