Here is a detailed itinerary for your trip.
DAY 1 – BAYEUX / GOLD BEACH / BAYEUX (27km)
On your way, you'll have the chance to enjoy the natural beauty of the Normandy coast, with its steep cliffs, sandy dunes, and quaint villages. You can also make stops to explore the numerous historic sites in the region. One major point of interest is the D-Day Museum in Arromanches, which recounts the history of D-Day and the military operations that followed. You'll also discover the remnants of the artificial port of Arromanches, built by the Allies to facilitate the landing of troops and equipment. Continuing along the coast, you'll come across the Gold beaches, including the Brèche and Asnelles beaches. These beaches witnessed fierce battles, and numerous commemorative monuments have been erected in memory of the soldiers who fell in combat.
Back in Bayeux, you can relax and enjoy your hotel before exploring the medieval town and its many historic monuments. Don't forget to indulge in the local gastronomy before retiring for the night.
DAY 2 – BAYEUX / OMAHA BEACH / BAYEUX (39km)
Hit the road towards the coast, following the signs for Omaha Beach. You'll wind your way through the green fields and valleys of the Bessin region. Along the way, you can stop to admire the stunning Normandy landscapes. Upon reaching Omaha Beach, which stretches from Vierville-sur-Mer to Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes, you'll discover the magnificent beaches assigned to the American troops during the June 6, 1944, landing. A must-see is the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, one of the most impressive, with its 9,387 graves of American soldiers who fell in battle.
Upon returning to Bayeux, you have the option to continue exploring the city and its many tourist and historical attractions.
