Castle of St. Peter

Bodrum Castle will be our first stop. The Bodrum Castle (Castle of St. Peter or Petronium) was built by the Knights of St John between 1406-1522 on a small rocky peninsula set between two sheltered harbours in Bodrum. In the construction of the castle, the stones of Mausoleion, which was one of the seven wonders of the world and demolished due to an earthquake were used. The Bodrum Castle (Castle of St. Peter or Petronium) has towers known as the French, Italian, English, German and Spanish, bearing the names of the nations responsible for their construction. After the island of Rhodes was taken over by the Turks in 1522, the knights left Bodrum and its surrounding territory on January 5., 1523. Being used as a prison for a period of time since 1895, the castle turned to ruin due to bombing of the French and English forces on May 26-28, 1915, during World War I. and was abandoned.

Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology

After exploring the Bodrum castle we will visit Underwater Archaeology musseum. Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum, which is the only museum in our country and one of the few in the world in the field of Underwater Archaeology, is located in Bodrum Castle. Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum, which has been serving since 1964 has a rich collection of underwater artefacts dating back from the 16th century AD to 16th century BC. Most of these artefacts were unearthed during underwater excavations carried out on the shores of our country since 1960. In addition to underwater finds, land finds that shed light on the history of the Bodrum Peninsula are also exhibited in the museum.

After the lunch, we will go to explore Bodrum amphitheatre. The Bodrum Antique Theatre dates back to the 4th century BC. King Mausolos is credited with its building. It has a classic Greco-Roman design that you see in amphitheatres from that time. During this time, it had the name Theatre at Halicarnassus. The people of ancient times would gather at the amphitheatres for theatre, spectacles, gladiator fights, and any number of public shows. The Bodrum Amphitheatre became a cultural centre during ancient times. Today, the amphitheatre is experiencing new life as it continues to serve its original purpose. Climb the steps or see a concert to walk in the steps of those who have visited the theatre centuries before. The theatre experienced a new life in 1973 when the Turkish government excavated and renovated the theatre. Today, its capacity is slightly smaller at 10,000 people.

Bodrum District

After exploring the Antique Theatre of Bodrum, we will visit the Windmills. A trip to Bodrum, Turkey, would not be complete without a visit to one of its most famous landmarks. Prominently sitting high on a hill of the Bodrum peninsula are the windmills. While they have long gone out of service, the windmills are a must-see stop for thousands of tourists each year. For some, they are a glimpse into history and culture. For others, it is a chance to see the vast land from a new perspective. Then finally, for some, they are simply a beautiful spot for grabbing some great holiday pictures.
