The fortress was built during the Bosnian Kingdom and once served as the residence of the 15th-century Bosnian King Stjepan Tomas 1. The castle is composed of a citadel with the main tower and a protective wall, surrounding the interior of medieval town 2. It is one of many medieval Bosnian towns with intensive political, economic, and cultural life. The fortress is a popular visitor attraction and has been declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Tešanj Castle is a fortress located in Tešanj, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is one of the biggest historical defensive fortifications in the country, with an area of 6,296 square metres. The castle was built during the Bronze Age and was later enhanced by the Romans, Slavs, and Ottomans. During the Ottoman period, the fortress had a permanent Ottoman Army garrison. The castle is composed of a citadel with a main tower and a protective wall, surrounding the interior of medieval town. The castle is also home to three museums, including a museum tower that showcases exhibits like the Ottoman Turkish flag from the Battle of Mohacs and a presentation of the history of Tesanj from the 19th and 20th centuries, including its major personalities such as the mayor Hamdibey Ajanovic and famous politician Zijad-bey Djonlagic. During the tour, you’ll learn about the fascinating history of the fortress and the role it played in shaping Bosnia’s past.

Srebrenik Fortress

Srebrenik Fortress is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Bosnia and Herzegovina, dating back to 1333. The fortress is located on the northeastern slopes of Majevica mountain in the village of Gornji Srebrenik, about 5 km away from the city centre. It is built on a steep, almost inaccessible rock with a deep trench dug underneath, with the only entrance being a small bridge. The castle was occupied by the Ban of Bosnia, Stephen II Kotromanic, until his death in 1353. The fortress has been declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina since November 2004.
