Day 1: Arrival at Paro – Thimphu (Cultural Introduction)
Arrive at Paro International Airport and meet your Bhutanese guide. Drive to Thimphu (approx. 1.5 hrs). En route, visit Tachog Lhakhang Bridge, an ancient iron chain bridge built by Thangtong Gyalpo. In the evening, visit Tashichho Dzong, the fortress of the glorious religion, beautifully lit at night. Spend the night in Thimphu.
Day 2: Thimphu – Trongsa (Scenic Mountain Drive)
Drive towards central Bhutan, crossing Dochula Pass (3,100m) with breathtaking Himalayan views. Stop at Chendebji Chorten, modelled on Kathmandu’s Swayambhunath Stupa. Arrive in Trongsa, once the power seat of Bhutan’s royal family. Visit Trongsa Dzong, one of the largest fortresses in Bhutan, overlooking the Mangde River gorge. Spend the night in Trongsa.
Day 3: Trongsa – Bumthang (Spiritual Heartland)
Take a scenic drive to Bumthang Valley (Jakar), often referred to as the “Soul of Bhutan.” En route, stop at Yutong La Pass (3,425m) for panoramic views. Visit Jakar Dzong (Fortress of the White Bird). In the evening, stroll through Chamkhar Town, a serene mountain settlement. Spend the night in Bumthang.
Day 4: Bumthang Spiritual & Monastic Tour
Visit the region’s sacred monasteries: Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, built in the 7th century; Kurjey Lhakhang, where Guru Rinpoche meditated, leaving his body imprint on the rock; and Tamshing Lhakhang, renowned for ancient Buddhist murals. Explore Swiss Farm for a local cheese-making and honey experience. In the evening, enjoy an optional meditation session or interaction with local monks. Spend the night in Bumthang.
Day 5: Bumthang – Paro
Drive back to Paro (approx. 8–9 hrs), passing through forests, valleys, and terraced farmlands. En route, visit Rinchending Monastery near Phuentsholing or stop at small village tea houses. In the evening, enjoy free time for local shopping and rest. Spend the night in Paro.
Day 6: Paro – Tiger’s Nest Hike – Departure
In the morning, hike to the Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), Bhutan’s most iconic spiritual site. Visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Transfer to Paro Airport for your onward flight.
