- Carretera Villanueva-Arenal, Kilómetro 1, Villanueva, Bolívar, Colombia | The reserve is located approximately one hour from Cartagena. To get there from Cartagena, we recommend taking the northern exit of the city and following the main road towards Villanueva, Bolívar. After passing through the town of Villanueva, continue driving for approximately 800 meters. On the right-hand side of the road, you will find a gate with two green signs displaying the foundation’s logo—this is the entrance to the reserve. It is very important that you inform us when you depart from Cartagena, so we can be attentive to your arrival and assist if needed. Please note that transportation is not included in this experience. However, we also offer an optional private transportation service for USD 75, which includes round-trip transfer from Cartagena. This service is available for up to 4 passengers.

The sanctuary is located approximately one hour from city centre Cartagena. For your convenience, we offer private transport as an optional add-on. Guests may also choose to arrive independently using services such as Uber or InDriver.
Private return transport is available for $75 USD per vehicle.

Discover an exceptional birdwatching experience at Fundación Loros, a 1,000-acre tropical dry forest reserve just an hour from Cartagena. Recognised as one of the top birding spots in the region and highly ranked on the eBird app, it’s a sanctuary for over 200 bird species.

Begin your day with a traditional breakfast by the lake, followed by an educational talk from biologists about the rehabilitation and release of parrots and macaws. Participate preparing food for these majestic birds, fostering a meaningful connection with them.

Explore the reserve’s trails and encounter iconic birds like Amazon parrots, Scarlet Macaws, Turquoise-winged Parrotlets, and Keel-billed Toucans. Rare species such as the Gray-capped Cuckoo and Gray-cheeked Nunlet make this a truly special destination. Along the way, spot monkeys like Cotton-top Tamarins monkeys, Howlers, and Capuchins, completing this immersive journey into biodiversity and conservation.

Important: Please remember that it is not permitted to feed the animals directly, or touch them. All activities take place under the supervision of our trained foundation staff, as this is a rehabilitation centre, not a zoo.
