Experience a high-altitude expedition in the central Andes with this 3-day ascent to Cerro El Plomo (5,424 m), one of the most iconic peaks near Santiago.

This progressive mountain experience combines a long approach through remote Andean valleys, high-altitude camping at Federación, and a demanding summit day. Throughout the route, you will move through open mountain terrain with wide views of the central Andes and surrounding peaks.

Cerro El Plomo also has strong cultural significance. Considered an Apu in Andean cosmology, it was used by the Incas for ceremonial purposes, and the famous “Momia del Plomo” was discovered near its summit.

Day 1 – La Parva → Federación Camp (~4,200 m)

Pick-up in Santiago / transfer to La Parva / start of the trek / approximately 10–12 hours / around 12 km with +1,200 m elevation gain / progressive ascent through high-mountain terrain / arrival at Federación Camp / camp setup / dinner and rest.

This first day is long and demanding, but it also allows participants to gradually gain altitude and experience the remote valleys that form part of the expedition.

Day 2 – Summit Day (5,424 m) → Federación

Very early start before dawn / progressive ascent towards the summit / approximately 10–12 hours return / around 10 km with +1,200 m elevation gain / summit attempt / descent back to Federación / dinner and rest.

The summit day and summit attempt are included in the itinerary. Reaching the summit itself cannot be guaranteed because each participant’s ability to continue depends on acclimatisation, fitness, fatigue, and their individual physical response to altitude.

During the ascent, the guide continuously evaluates each participant’s condition and ability to continue safely. If a participant shows altitude-related symptoms, excessive fatigue, impaired coordination, or another indication that continuing would be unsafe, the guide may require that participant to stop the ascent or turn back. These decisions are made for the participant’s safety and are part of responsible high-altitude mountain guiding.

Day 3 – Federación → La Parva → Santiago

Breakfast / camp breakdown / descent to La Parva / approximately 6–8 hours of trekking / transfer back to Santiago / end of the programme.

Minor adjustments to timing, pace, rest stops, and daily logistics may be made according to the group’s progress and the natural rhythm of the expedition.
