Day 1: Mountain City Layers & Riverside Nights
Meet your guide at the Shancheng Trail (Step 3 Entrance). Start your adventure walking along the pedestrian path built right onto the city's cliffs. Enjoy stunning views over the Yangtze River and pass by ancient city walls and traditional tea houses.
Next, walk to the revitalised 18 Steps (Shibati) area. Discover how old Chongqing architecture blends with new life in this historic area that connects the upper and lower parts of the city.
Arrive at the bustling Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street. See the city's iconic Liberation Monument, then enjoy free time for lunch at the nearby Bayi Food Street. Your guide will recommend local snacks like spicy hot pot noodles or sweet rice balls.
Explore the incredible Hongyadong Folk Custom Area. Navigate this 11-story maze of shops and traditional stilted houses built into the hillside. It's the perfect place to find unique souvenirs and see why Chongqing is called a “3D city.”
After dinner, head to the best viewing areas across from Hongyadong or on the Qiansimen Bridge to watch the buildings light up like a scene from a film. Then, board your comfortable sightseeing boat at Chaotianmen Dock. Relax on the deck as you sail past Chongqing's dazzling skyline. See Hongyadong, the futuristic Raffles City complex, and the Grand Theatre glow against the night sky.
Return to your centrally-located hotel in the Jiefangbei area. Your first day ends here, but you're free to continue exploring the vibrant nightlife on your own.
Day 2: Above, Through & Into History
Start early to beat the crowds. Take a thrilling ride on the Yangtze River Cable Car. Start from the South Bank (Xinshangjie Station) for the most impressive views as you “fly” towards the towering skyscrapers.
Experience Chongqing's unique light rail, Line 2. Feel like you're on a rollercoaster as it winds through the city. Get off at Liziba Station and go to the viewing platform to watch, photograph, and be amazed as trains regularly zip right through the middle of a residential high-rise.
Take the efficient Metro Line 1 for a comfortable ride to your final destination: the legendary Ciqikou Old Town. Enjoy free time for lunch in Ciqikou. This is your chance to try local specialities like the fiery Old Town Chicken Pot (Ciqikou Jiza) or grab some famous freshly-made Chen's Sesame Twists (Chen Mahua) as a snack.
Dive into the bustling energy of this ancient town. Wander the high street packed with food stalls and craft shops. For a quieter moment, slip into a side alley to visit a traditional courtyard (Zhongjia Courtyard) or climb up to Baolun Temple for a panoramic view.
