Peak of the Three Gorges is a national 4A scenic spot sitting at 1,388 metres up on Chijiashan Mountain along the Yangtze's north bank in Fengjie County, Chongqing. It's smack in the heart of the Three Gorges' start, about 25km from Fengjie town centre, and guess what—it inspired the scenery on the back of China's 10-yuan bill. Hands down the highest spot with the best Three Gorges views you'll find.

The whole area's over 10 square km with 17 attractions—plan on 3–5 hours to see it all:
Main spots: Kuigu Square, Four Directions Altar, Nine Songs Altar, Heavenly Sound Path
How to get around: Shuttle bus + walking trails

    Cool Features and Highlights
Inspired by Du Fu's poem “Kuizhou Song”—“Red armour and white salt both pierce the sky, villages winding up to the mountaintop”—it mixes Kuizhou music culture with Chu poetry's Nine Songs vibe. This is your ultimate high-up lookout over Qutang Gorge, that “one man guards the pass, ten thousand can't get through” strategic spot. Autumn turns it into a fiery paradise of maple forests and orange trees—photographers' dreamland.

    What You Can See
    North: Panoramic Workshop Valley
South: Baiyan Mountain across the river
West: White Emperor City and poetic Qutang Gorge
East: Wushan Airport and the Yangtze's first big bend
360° Epic: Picture-perfect Qutang Gorge shores with the mighty Kuimen right in your face
