Meet your friendly local host at a traditional wet market. They will guide you through the bustling stalls, introducing you to the essential ingredients of Chongqing snacks. Discover the fragrant spices for the potato sauce, the specific glutinous rice flour for Tangyuan, and the rich brown sugar used in local desserts. Touch, smell, and ask questions just like a local.
Bring your ingredients to the host’s home. In their cosy kitchen, roll up your sleeves for a genuine hands-on class. Learn to prepare 2 signature Chongqing snacks:
Langya Potatoes (狼牙土豆): Master the technique of cutting these famous “wolf tooth” shaped fries and mixing the perfect spicy, numbing, and savoury sauce.
Brown Sugar Tangyuan (红糖汤圆): Mix, knead, and roll the glutinous rice dough by hand, then boil them in a sweet, ginger-infused brown sugar soup.
Sit down to enjoy the delicious snacks you’ve created, served with authentic Chinese tea. Your host and another 1 or 2 local friends (who enjoy cultural exchange) will join the meal. This is a relaxed, friendly gathering where you can share stories, ask about life in Chongqing, and make real connections.
Wind down with a calming creative session. Learn the basics of the traditional art of Chinese paper-cutting (jianzhi). Create your own unique design to take home as a beautiful, handcrafted souvenir.
Before you wrap up, your host will walk you to the nearby famous The Ring Mall (光环购物公园). You will get to see the mall's stunning centrepiece: the “Forest of Light” (沐光森林), a massive indoor tropical rainforest garden spanning 7 floors with waterfalls and exotic plants. It is a perfect spot for a final photo.
