On this food tour, you will immerse yourself in the local cuisine of Tirana and experience traditional Albanian dishes. Tirana is a vibrant metropolis rich in contrasts, showcasing the remnants of its past alongside modern influences. It serves as a crossroads of various eras in Albanian history, where early 20th-century art mingles with the stark, angular architecture from the communist period, all while contemporary buildings continue to emerge. This tour will guide you through some of the city's most captivating areas, filled with local flavours, intriguing stories, and warm interactions with residents.
After pick-up, we will head to one of the few authentic breakfast spots, “Mengjezore.” Here, you’ll have the chance to sample “Pace,” a rich, spicy soup made from beef head or bone marrow. Located in the “Bicycle Market,” a quintessential area, this restaurant has been preserving the breakfast tradition since 2004.
As we leave the historic part of the city and move towards the centre, you’ll notice the influence of communist-era architecture. It’s time for a coffee break at a local café, where you can choose from different coffee varieties from around the globe. To truly experience the local culture, opt for a small espresso or a cup of Turkish coffee.
Strolling along the “Pedonale,” the artistic pedestrian boulevard, we will visit Tirana Castle. Situated in the city centre, it has served as an administrative hub through various regimes. Recently renovated, it boasts unique shops and bars, showcasing local products that reflect the region’s culinary heritage.
Our tour continues on the main boulevard, “Deshmoret e Kombit,” where you’ll learn about its architecture, style, and history. Here, you'll encounter the iconic Piramida and some of Tirana's most famous buildings. We'll take a brief pause to enjoy a local speciality: the refreshing Mase drink served with ice cream.
Finally, we’ll visit a local restaurant for a complete traditional grilled meal. Known for their hearty meat dishes, Albanian cuisine offers a variety of options that are sure to satisfy. You’ll have the opportunity to try Fergesa, a Tirana speciality, along with meatballs, suxhuk (Kosovo sausages), and more, all paired with local drinks.
