This conformation is an advantage for visitors because it helps to immerse themselves in the enchanting atmosphere of the city!
The guided tour begins in Piazza Cavour. This square, more modern than the other ones in the city, stands where there was the ancient medieval port, which was undergrounded in the second half of the nineteenth century.
Passing by the Teatro Sociale built in 1811 and inaugurated on 1813, the year of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner birth, the next stop is in Duomo Square, the political and religious centre of medieval Como.
The great facade of the Cathedral shows a vast sculptural decoration, testimony of the skills of the so-called Comacine masters who during the Middle Ages enriched the entire city and the entire lake territory with works of architecture.
The visit continues towards the oldest church of the historic centre, the Church of San Fedele, which overlooks a small and very characteristic square. Looking at the buildings it seems that time has stopped.
Let’s continue until Porta Torre, part of the ancient city walls, dating back to the XII century.
Walking through the fascinated streets of the centre is possible to see historic buildings and old shops mixed with fashion shops.
Crossing Piazza Volta, which houses the marble statue dedicated to Alessandro Volta and inaugurated in 1838, you will finish the tour at the lake front from where you can admire the cable railway and the modern monument of the archistar Daniel Libeskind.
In this tour there is included an open ticket for a boat cruise of the first basin of the Lake (without guide). You can choose which time is suitable for you and be delighted by an amazing and romantic boat trip where you can see from another point of view the town of Cernobbio, Moltrasio, Torno and Blevio and the fantastic villas overlooking the lake.
