What you can expect

Most visitors to Florence pass by the Bargello without even looking at it. This tour takes you inside.

The Bargello Museum is the oldest public building in Florence and one of its most underrated museums: less crowded than the Uffizi, more intimate than the Accademia, and home to some of the most extraordinary sculptures ever made. For over 1 hour and 30 minutes, your expert and certified guide will bring medieval Florence to life through the art, civic power, and history of the city's most famous exile: Dante Alighieri.

Your journey begins in the Cortile del Podestà, the very place where Dante's sentence of permanent exile was pronounced in 1302. Here, surrounded by the coats of arms of the medieval rulers of Florence, the guide sets the historical scene: the clash between the Guelphs and Ghibellines, the political tensions that defined the city, and the moment that sent the greatest poet of the western world into exile forever.

From the courtyard, the tour continues through the museum's extraordinary collection. You will find yourself in front of the David by Donatello, the first free-standing male nude sculpture since antiquity, and you will understand what it meant for Florentine identity and Renaissance art. You'll discover Ghiberti, Verrocchio, and the sculptural revolution that bridged the medieval world and the 15th century.

Throughout the visit, the focus remains on what made this period so crucial: the birth of the individual artist, the transition from anonymous craftsmanship to genius with a name, and the role of civic patronage in shaping one of the greatest artistic traditions in history.

The tour is for small groups of up to 10 participants: intimate, unhurried, and deeply enriching. A private tour option is also available.
