Arrival at Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru is internationally recognised as one of Kenya’s premier rhino sanctuaries. The park plays a critical role in protecting both black and white rhinoceros species, making it one of the most reliable places in the country to encounter these endangered giants in their natural habitat.

Despite its relatively small size compared to other national parks, Lake Nakuru boasts an impressive variety of ecosystems packed into one area. This diversity supports a wide range of wildlife species.

1. The Lakeshore
   The alkaline waters of Lake Nakuru have long been famous for attracting flamingos. Depending on water levels and seasonal conditions, thousands — sometimes even millions — of these pink-feathered birds gather along the shoreline, creating a breathtaking ribbon of colour against the blue water.
2. The Woodlands
   The park’s acacia forests are home to the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, easily recognisable by its lighter coat and distinct markings.
3. The Grasslands
   Open grassland areas are prime territory for buffalo herds and zebras. These plains also attract predators. While sightings can never be guaranteed, Lake Nakuru is home to lions and elusive leopards that sometimes rest in trees or stalk prey through tall grass.
   Late Morning: Baboon Cliff – A Scenic Masterpiece
   One of the park’s most iconic stops is Baboon Cliff. Perched high above the lake, this viewpoint offers sweeping, postcard-perfect views of the shimmering water, surrounding acacia forests, and distant escarpments.
   The elevated position provides a different perspective of the park’s geography and scale.
