The shrine features a beautifully lacquered main hall, showcasing traditional Japanese architecture, and surrounding gardens with seasonal flowers that enhance the serene atmosphere. It is home to various historical buildings, including Tenkai Inari Shrine, Treasure Hall, and Kanko Historical Museum, adding depth to its cultural offerings. Visitors can also enjoy seasonal blooms such as plum blossoms, which hold particular significance as they were favoured by Michizane.
Nyoirinji Frog Temple

Nyoirinji Temple, known as the "Frog Temple," is famous for its unique frog displays and spiritual significance. The temple showcases around 10,000 frogs of various shapes and colours, symbolising prosperity and good fortune. Legend has it that the temple was established by monk Gyoki during the Nara period, and it is designated as a cultural property of Fukuoka Prefecture, reflecting its historical importance. In summer, thousands of wind chimes are hung, creating a charming ambiance and representing wishes for a safe season. The wind chimes in the temple are sold for 500 yen and cannot be taken home. The wind chimes are decorated from June 1 to September 30 of every year.
