What you can expect

  • The History Tour starts in the Market Place- the beating heart of the city. We take in two of the city's historic bridges and tranquil riverside walkways where we encounter tales of the city's founding and it's tumultuous medieval history. There is a stroll along the South and North Bailey, home to Durham University, before finishing in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Palace Green. We will finish at the doors of Durham Cathedral which is only a 4 minute walk back to the starting point in the Market Place.

Walkabout Durham is a small family run business of two guides (Peter and Annmarie). We both grew up in Durham, trained as teachers and have been running tours in Durham since 2019. This was our first tour and is still the most popular of our range of tours.
