What you can expect

Tour Itinerary: Samaria South Highlights
08:00 – Pickup & Scenic Drive: We begin our day with a comfortable 1.5-hour drive to the historic village of Sfakia, enjoying the changing Cretan landscape.
Coastal Village Stop: A short walk in Sfakia for photos and a taste of local life before we board the ferry.
Ferry to Agia Roumeli: A beautiful boat ride brings us to the base of the gorge, where the mountains meet the Libyan Sea.
The Hike (Level: Easy/Relaxed): Starting from sea level, we enter the gorge. As your IFMGA Guide, I lead the way at your own pace.
Terrain: Mostly flat, smooth paths with a gentle rise (up to 150m).
Nature: We walk under majestic trees, surrounded by 2000m high peaks, discussing the unique flora and fauna of Samaria.
“The Gates” (Portes): We reach the narrowest and most famous point of the gorge for a long photo stop and a rest.
Riverside Walk: Following the soothing sound of the river, we continue to the “Christos” point before our smooth return to the village.
Beach & Local Flavours: After our 8km journey, enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear blue sea, followed by a traditional home-cooked meal at a local restaurant.
20:00 – Return: We head back, arriving home filled with memories of the “Iron Gates.
