Depart from Favignana and travel to Marettimo, the wildest and most unspoiled island in the Aegadian archipelago. This boat excursion is designed for those who want to go beyond the classic coastal trip and spend a full day immersed in the nature of the open sea, among spectacular caves, cliffs, and waters of an almost unreal blue.
After departing from the harbour of Favignana, the boat heads decisively west. As you sail, you can admire Favignana receding behind you while the outline of Marettimo becomes clearer and clearer: a mountain rising from the sea, with sheer cliffs, green valleys, and very few houses visible from the coast. It's the prelude to a completely different landscape, more rugged and wild, far from the busiest routes.
Once in Marettimo, the exploration of the island by sea begins. The skipper, who knows every inlet well, will take you along the coast to discover sea caves, natural arches and small hidden bays. Depending on the sea conditions, you will be able to enter some caves by boat to get a close-up look at the play of light and turquoise reflections on the water. There are several stops along the route for swimming and snorkelling: we will provide you with a mask and snorkel, and you can swim among rocky seabeds, Posidonia, and colourful fish within the marine protected area.
In addition to the nature part, the excursion also allows you to experience the most authentic side of the island. There will be free time in the small village of Marettimo, a fishing village made up of whitewashed houses, quiet alleys, and bars overlooking the small harbour. Here you can walk around on your own, have a coffee overlooking the sea, buy some local products, or simply sit and watch the slow pace of life on the island. The stop will last about an hour.
During the day, the skipper will tell you interesting facts about Marettimo: the ancient routes of the fishermen, the history of the reserve, the marine fauna that inhabits these waters, and the differences between the three main islands of the Egadi. Unlike the classic boat ride around Favignana, this excursion has a more “adventurous” feel: you really go offshore, towards an island that has maintained a wild and discreet soul.
The return to Favignana takes place in the afternoon. The return trip is the perfect time to relax on the deck, soak up the sun, and look back on the day: the caves, the crystal-clear water, the silence of the village, and the feeling of having explored a corner of the Mediterranean that is still untouched.
The excursion is suitable for couples, families, and groups of friends who want a more complete and “exploratory” day on a boat, with a little more sailing than the classic Favignana tour. It is recommended that you bring a swimming costume, a beach towel, sun cream, a hat, and, if you wish, your snorkelling mask.
