Begin your day in the heart of Medellín near Plaza Botero. Enjoy a traditional Paisa breakfast with rice and beans, scrambled eggs, and a hot cup of Colombian coffee or chocolate. After breakfast, take a quick walk to admire the 23 bronze sculptures by Fernando Botero and the Gothic architecture of the Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture.
Next, walk to San Antonio Station and board the Ayacucho Tram. This sleek, electric system showcases urban art and clean transport. Get off at the Oriente station area to visit the UVA de la Imaginación. These are former water tanks transformed into public parks. It offers a great view of the eastern slopes and serves as a symbol of community dignity.
Then, head north on the Metro to the Hospital or Universidad station. Explore Commune 4 (Aranjuez). You can visit the Botanical Garden or simply walk through the area to see the Explora Park architecture. This area represents the city's focus on science and education.
Take the Metrocable from Acevedo Station up to Santo Domingo Savio. Glide over the rooftops of Commune 1, seeing the density and growth of the city from above. Find a “fonda” or a local restaurant with a balcony overlooking the valley. Try a Bandeja Paisa or a “Sancocho” soup while enjoying one of the best panoramic views of Medellín.
Head to the western side of the city to the famous Commune 13. Walk through the Independence area to see the street art, breakdance performances, and the orange-roofed electric escalators. This area is the global face of Medellín’s social transformation.
To wrap up the day, return towards the centre/Boston area to visit the historic Calle Cervantes. Grab a cold Club Colombia or Aguila beer. This street is famous for its bohemian atmosphere, bookshops, and traditional bars. It’s the perfect spot to relax and discuss the day's journey while watching the city transition into night.
